Bow Help

Hello all,

Im asking for a little advice, this may have been adressed before, if it was i couldnt find it on the search feature.
 
Ok here it is, I have 2 bows, a #45 Bear Stag Hunter, and a #60 Sage Takedown....so heres my question, im going to ohio tommorow and i need to know what bow to use, around here in NC the deer average probably 80 to 100 lbs. The #45 Bear does great on these but i realize the body is quite abit larger on ohio deer.
i would just use the Sage, but im not really used to it, im good with it, but not "one" with it. Now on the other hand i LOVE the Bear.

So, with a Painted 28.5in 2213 Easton Maxum Shaft, and a #45 bow at under 15yds, can i ethically take an ohio buck? Thanks ahead of time for the responses,

Taking animals is as much or more dependent on shot placement w/razor sharp BH's. Heavier arrows (10-13gpp) will penetrate further due to momentum. Complete passthrough is good most often for tracking purposes. 45# will kill deer NP, 60# is better for the penetration effects & resulting kill zone trauma. That is, if you can shoot the 60# as well.

I would definitely take the one I had most confidence in shooting.Make sure your broadheads are razor sharp and you will have no problems.

Those arrows with that 100 gr head seem way over spined for that 45# bow.  Using Stu's calculator it shows a spine of 83.4#.  It also shows a total arrow weight of about 420.

I bought/set them up for the #60 Sage, but i got bored and tried them and they fly well for whatever reason...unorthodox, but hey, whatever works...

Thanks for the replies, i have a new pack of phantoms, ive been practicing with old ones, ive found that their pretty sharp out of the package.

Confidence in a bow goes a long way in my opinion!!  Shot placement would be the key.

Well then, the Bear is what im taking. i have a TON of confidence with it, im slightly arrogant with it  :rolleyes:  
will do brother, although id rather be known as a Blue Devil than a tar-heel...

Definitly take the bear.

 The 45 lb Bear is legal to use here in Ohio as the minimum poundage is 40. Go with the bow you are most proficient with. Take your best shot and I'm sure your setup will be more than enough.

Well guys heres what happened. I stalke through corn, and spotted and stalked all week, then we tried drivig, this worked wonderfullly, my guide Lynn and I were up in a tree watching deer file by when i heard Lynn say the beautiful words "Heres comes a shooter!" well i ready my #45 Bear Stag Hunter as a beautiful main fraim 5 walks near.
Instead of walking down the 4-wheeler trail like the other 15 deer, he cuts in towards the tree. It came broadside at 5 yards, i took the shot. not the greatest angle for a low poundage bow.
My arrow entered, slightly left on  the deer but still a good shot. The kicker was, with that beastly backstrap i only got about 3 or so inches of pentetration. Now, i accept full responsability for this, it was souley my fault. But anyways here he is, he ended up having 13 scorable points. My first Pope and Young, and i got it with my recurve. I am one happy camper!!!

Lots of good advice here. Shoot the one you have the most confidence in. Either bow will work just fine.Sharp BH & good arrow placement - these are the keys to your success.
