Need a new plan!
« on: October 26, 2010, 09:42:00 PM »
I have a stand I've harvested 10 deer from in the last 4 years. I have missed several and let some walk. I have set in it 6 days so far. I have seen a total of 10 tree rats and one spider. Acorns are good around me but they are good everywhere. I may need to look for a different stand. Don

Time for a walkabout for sign. The deer must have found something tasty somewhere.

Good luck!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Sounds like something has changed, or they are on to you.  The conditions may not be right either.  I know here in central OK things seem to be about 3 weeks or so off compared to the typical patterns.

Keep after them and have fun!

If you go according to the moon phase deal, the rut will be later this year.

First of all I see deer disappear for the week preceeding and the week after a full moon here in NH. With few exceptions (I have killed 2 during the full moon), they seem to go nocturnal. My trail cams tell me they are still there but their timing does not coincide with hunting hours.

Secondly, yesterday I got a trail cam pic of a buck actually chasing a doe...the rut is not late...if anything it seems to be a bit early around here...at least the chasing has started. For the past two weeks we have been getting pics of bucks feeding right along with the does. Up until then we would only see them by themselves. They are starting to feel "lucky". I expect that with the moon waning and some cooler air on the way, this weekend should start to see a lot more action. It's been very slow during day time hours the last two weeks. Even the raccoons are feeding well into the evening hours.
The best things in life....aren't things!
