« on: October 27, 2010, 04:04:00 PM »
Anyone hunting East Texas lately, how's it been? Supposed to be 40F next couple of AMs. Hope to get my first trad deer and hog. Wish me luck!

Skunked this AM. Heard deer in the woods in front of us and jumped a BIG boar coming in but never saw them. Heard a pig grunt off to our left. Wind was swirling away to the feeder and back towards all morning. Might try the ghillie suit and Huntmore setup this PM....we are also inundated with acorns as usual...7000 acres worth!

Seen 12 deer this morning at my house down the road from you near Emory. There was one good buck following a doe. We have a pipeline on our place and this is the most activity seen so far. Got 9 days off after tomorrow, can't wait. I really like the first week in November, usually pretty good. Oh yea, the acorns are everywhere here too!  Goodluck & keep us updated.

Good luck. I hunt south of Texarkana and it's been hard hunting. Lots of movement in the woods but haven seen much and have hunted hard. Lots of acorns around here.
We are all put to the test but it never comes in the form or time we prefer. Unknown

There is a front that is here.  You are looking at the 40's temp for a low and north wind on halloween.  It is time to be in the woods this weekened.  Got a good feeling that the bucks are going to start some action with this colder temp.  Good luck on your hunt!

Deer have been moving midday, not in AM and not coming to feeders. I walked all the way in from the truck in ninja mode, down to a hog spot on Harris Creek, climbing into the stand late and in no time was on some hogs right at dusk yesterday. All sizes too. I picked an enormous black and white sow from the group of 7-10 to shoot, I mean a really, really big pig with target spots on her sides, and just as they are heading around the feeder fence pandels counter clockwise my way I hear my buddy coming up the trail. He makes noise like nobody's business.......Once I turned to see him, I waved him off, signaling him to stop and hide, and NOT spook the hogs. Well, he spooked them, and to boot took a 50+ yard shot at them as they departed, just to ice the cake.......sheeesh. I was so pissed. We came back to Dallas this AM. Probably heading out again next Wed-Sat. Can't wait for November! Another nice things is it isn't muddy yet like it was all last season. Not sure what we'll have to do with all the acorns there. We did jump a doe Fri afternoon and my buddy shot her on foot. They aren't running away much yet.
