Headed to Tioga PA
« on: October 27, 2010, 04:04:00 PM »
Going to hunt with a few friends on a last minute invite. SGL 37 and the Tioga State Forest. Any last minute suggestions from any PA hunters??? I leave Friday.

I wish you the best.  A lot of the game lands are shot out due to the program to eradicate the deer.  The northern tier has been especially barren.  But maybe your friends have found some deer.  If so, don't tell anyone.

That kinda sucks. They normally go to Ohio every year and decided to go to PA this year. Not sure why, but they did. At least I will be with friends and hope to have a nice time afield. Better than work or watching television.

The deer seem to be very vocal around Tioga county. I've had excellent luck calling in that area. It is one of the VERY FEW places calling has worked for me. Get in EARLY and hunt till legal time is up. Still a lot of deer around there, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised if you really hammer it.

I try to get in the thick of it here in SC, so I hope my strategy pays off there. Thick stuff, and at least 1 mile if not two around a saddle or bench. I am sure you all have had the acorn drop and leaves are down? I don't call nothing, but I do rattle some.

You will see a heavy acorn fall. Hunt the acorn flats on the benches. You might just hit it right as the temperature is dropping by Friday and the winds will settle down over the weekend. Good luck

It's beautiful up there! Lots of coyotes and bears! Kill the coyotes. Good luck and take some pictures for us. We like pictures, it cuts down on all the words!

You're going to one of the best hunting counties in the state of Pa. It's beautiful up there right now. Your heading to a "good place". Have a great weekend.

I hunt Tioga State Forest above Wellsboro. Get a map and go in as far as you can. Pack in for the day. Deer are few and far between but I have seen some nice mountain bucks the last few years but in my opinion you need to get in deep. You might even consider spending a night or 2 in the woods. Good Luck!! It is beautiful country.

I hunt just south of the Tioga/Lycoming county county border. Plenty of acorns this year, so look to the ridges for plenty of deer. Some does still like those open cut field to graze, bucks will follow them there. Been real warm lately w/ a full moon, so things have been slow. Mostly nighttime activity.  Thinking things should start to get better this weekend w/ cooler temps.  Some scraping n rubbing starting to appear. Hunt w/ no expectations, and good things will happen.  Good luck!!

I'll be hunting about 35 miles east of you ! going up tonight!  Lots of acorns and lots of other things for them to eat .   SMall-game hunters  in the woods right now,   so they will move a few deer around .     Deer are responding to grunts  but I have had no luck rattling yet.
   Good luck
