She's back.....ya think?
« on: October 29, 2010, 07:49:00 PM »
Back in '06 I caught this big old doe on my Cuddeback. I have not seen her since although I have crossed paths with a few I thought could be her.

Then I checked my Cuddeback last night from the day before and caught this old doe. The two pics are four years apart and directly across the large swamp I know the deer love to hide in. The two pics are, perhaps, 3/4 mile apart and the photos are on opposite sides of the swamp.

So....what do you think? It it her? A bit older and somewhat worn out? I would like to think so. In the latest photo she is under 10 yards from my Double Bull. I want to enter her into Bobby Urban's big doe contest. I'm going  to need  a bit of luck and I think I need to become a morning person.

From the looks of her feet in the first pic, she hangs out in the swamp

Could be. The doe in the first picture seems to have a shorter muzzle than the second one which would be indicator of younger deer.

It appears there is a "shadow" of a saddle on both of them. I'd forget the doe bleat and try a whinny!  Very big ole does.

She'll fill a major spot in a freezer, that's all I'm sure of! Good luck with her.

I had a big doe like her in my area last year, she busted me so many times!  Thanksgiving week I hunted on a day that the wind was really swirling and she made the mistake of getting a little too close to me.  One of my buddies is a game biologist and he ager her at 8 1/2   She was truly a trophy, alot spookier and smarter than any buck I have seen.  I never did weigh her but I'd guess she field dressed over 150#

Good luck if you decide to try and get her!

I have never seen a doe that big. Wow.

In Hastings, Michigan, 15+ years ago someone hit one with a car that went 327#
Now that is some deer. (I am assuming it was on the hoof weight)

Your doe in the pic would rival most bucks at their peak, or very near it. All that from a little corn huh? lol

The doe in the first pic is definately a mature doe...and a big un! the second doe looks mature too but after 4 years not mature enough to be the same.IMO    What do you guess she weighs? We are liucky to have does weighing 125#.

There is an old doe, currently still managing two yearlings, on my hunting ground.   She's as large as any buck I've seen and she has busted me every single time I've hunted this year.   She's trouble and I want to kill her but I'm beginning to wonder if she's jinxed me.

I did kill a snake just before the season so I know that my mojo is good and that a deer or two will end up in the freezer this year, but this old gal might not be one of them.

OK - first off I want to see her hanging.  Go get that big gal and win you some arrows.  Second, if it was the swamp I was hunting I would hope they are not the same deer because that would indicate to me that there is some good genetics for the propensity to be "large" and that is a good thing.  Good luck Bill - if you get her and win the arrow contest I may have to throw in an alarm clock for you  :)

I wouldn't need an alarm clock if I knew she was coming to the blind. I may need so sleeping aid as I would think about her a lot  :)

If you get her let us know the weight on her.

We've been using our trail cams since this Spring and this is the first time we have seen this gal. We thought we knew all the deer that hang out in and around our property but we know that when the rut starts (seems like it has started about a week earlier this year) that we often see bucks we have never seen before. I get the feeling this old gal stays low, takes her time and is very observant. On one of the three pics  I have of her she is staring right at the blind.

Overspined....the corn has nothing to do with it...I can't afford to feed them so they get that big. But, in our area we are impressed with the number of does that make it thru the firrearms season and how big some of them are. The State of NH has limited the taking of does this year by shortening the season on them in most areas. Muzzleloaders have one weekend plus 5 days and the same is true for regular firearms. I still have two tags and will not "waste" my doe tags (actually they are either sex tags) on yearlings or does with fawns. This is the fourth season we have owned the property and each year, so far, the late bow season has given me opportunities on some big does but because I took smaller anterless deer earlier I could not harvest one. I holding that tag til the last day if I have to.

Bobby, if I am fortunate enough to take a doe and win the arrows (which I really don't need) we will have to come up with a way to have them go to some needy kid or service man. Your contest has just given me more motivation to take one of  four does that I would consider shooting. This one and one other one are at the top of the list...and I will post the weight. Stuff like this keep me motivated to go out every day I can. But I don't want to overhunt that blind but it's hard not to do so with deer like that running around., Muzzleloaders will be out today so  the deer on the outskirts of our property should know my now that our place is "safe" for them....as least from the guns.
