Sickening sound.........
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:16:00 PM »
Was out hunting this evening, not to far from a well used road. At 6:17 I suddenly hear a vehicle go into a skid followed by a loud thud. Instant nausea.
Hoping no one got hurt and also wondering whether it was a buck or doe were thoughts that entered my mind at the same time.Turns out that it was a very big bodied 6pt that picked the wrong time to cross the road. Man I hate to see them get hit by cars!!

                                Good hunting,

Me too, besides the possibilty of injury or death to people, it's a terrible waste. I've often wondered how many TONS of prime venison rots on the shoulder of our highways. I ride a motorcycle year round and I dread an encounter with one. I had a scary near miss with a HUGE Skunk the other morning.

Danny Bows-We had a guy around here hit a doe with his motorcycle. The dow was still carring 3 fawns. She aborted them. A local guy got a permit  and had them froze dried. The odd thing was that it happened on the 4th of July. The guy on the cycle was ok.

About 9 or so years ago I was out in the garage getting stuff organized for the next day's hunt, opening day of bow season.  I lived on triangle shaped property with a roads down the two long sides of the property.  I heard a vehicle accelerate to pass on the road in back of the house.  Then the breaks squealed and the very loud crunching thud followed by several odd sounds and finally the sound of my chain link fence taking a hit from something.  I went into the back yard to find a very large 11 pt. hung up in my fence and one of my 8' pine trees practically knocked out of the ground from taking the first hit by the flying deer.  Then there was the mangled Ford Bronco in the yard.  It was about a 160 typical and over 200 lb.  The largest buck I had ever seen in the area.  It was a depressing day all around.  The guy that hit is was actually quite proud of his trophy.

I have heard the same thing......it's a shame that it has to happen like that!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki
