Chippewa Wedge-lok homemade brackets

I have had a ton of request on how I make these, so I am gonna post it here as I have had so many requests it is hard to respond to them all so here we go. Everything you need is available at Lowes or Home Depot except the hockey pucks and if ya buy in quantity and get the ratchet straps on sale you can make these for around $8 a piece. Depending on which stand you have you may have to make some minor changes in length of cable but this will give you the idea. I have made over 50 of these, remember use at your own risk!! I have never had a problem with the ones I have made, so here you go->>>-----------> Items needed- 2 hockey pucks, 2ft. 5/16ths. coated cable, 2 cable clamps, 10"s of 1/2" plastic tubing and a ratchet strap. First drill a 3/8ths inch hole in each puck than slide one puck over cable than slide on the plastic tubing than slide on next puck, center everything and put a loop in one end of cable and add cable clamp and tighten up, do same to other end and you are done. Just go to tree and attach with rachet strap. Shawn

I have a nephew that played hockey and had a ton of pucks. FREE. Go to your local rink and ask for used pucks. FREE

I had access to a crimper for the cable ends and used welded chain like came with it. The critters cannot chew metal.

The ratchet straps will make them much lighter and anybody can make them like Shawn says.

I will make some to go with my seat and as a traveling strap.

I buy boat trailer rollers and cut them up on my bandsaw instead of hockey pucks. works fine. Don

what are these used for?  I'm having a hard time visualizing their use.  Thanks for the "How to" though.

I'm just assuming it is a way to hang a treestand.

"Chippewa Wedge-lok homemade brackets" Chippewa Wedge-lok is the stand.  You hang a bracket then the stand just hooks on it. Very fast set-up if you have the brackets set in all your hunting spots.  You can check them out on the net and it will all make sence to you.

I used tennis balls filled with expandable foam instead of hockey pucks.  Worked well.

I have never had a critter mess with my straps, problem with chain and the crimper it increases the cost to make them by a lot. I use straps rated for 900#s and always check them before I sit each season but have some that have been in trees for 4 years and they are fine, I loosen up after each season as trees do grow over a years time. Shawn

In reality though- I am not sure why you would need to leave the harness in the trees.  You still have to set the stand; it takes no time to attach the harness then set the stand- we are talking 30 seconds of extra work.

Dan, Shawn has over 50 stand sites that he maintains in a bow only area. Small tracts of land sometimes...I think he got the wedge locks to simplify the upkeep of so many sites, and to lessen the impact of entry/exit.
I sat in one of them a couple of years ago. I was very impressed with the wedge lock. Even a first time user, with some easy instruction had the stand hung and level in a matter of seconds....quietly.
