What A Thrill
« on: November 24, 2010, 09:18:00 PM »
Just got back into Trad Archery after a 9 year lay-off due to shoulder, elbow and hand problems.

Thanks to my fellow trad archery friends for the encouragement and support over the years.

Anyway the other day in the woods I was checking out an old hunting area when I heard this deer running towards me from a basin area. It was a doe that broke over the one ridge coming out of the basin at about 30 yards. She was coming hard and almost directly at me. She noticed me and went a little to her left and passed me by at about 5 yards. Well I kind of figured what may be following so I nocked an arrow and before I could get by a tree I heard the next deer coming up over the ridge line the doe came from. All I seen at first was a rack and then noticed he was coming full out but instead of the doe's line he was on a lazzer beam right dead at me. All I know he had a fairly wide rack with a few tines. At about 15 yards and he did not look like he had noticed me I waved my arms and yelled at him. That must have broke his focus enough that he made one hard right turn and passed close enough that I could have tripped him up by sticking my bow out. He continued on around and after the doe neither to be seen again. That was a great welcome back and made the 61 year old ticker race for the next 5 minutes.

Below are a couple mug shots of me, (trying my pic posting) but be warned it is not pretty.

The bow is a bamboo backed osage self.

It's great having deer close enough to touch. Kinda takes something out of the "non-bow" hunting season.

Sounds like a great experience.  Glad to hear you're back into traditional shooting.  Nothing like having the ol heart beat ninety to nothing.

When a deer passes by me at 5 yards, it isn't a thrill. It's a "rush".

Well I almost did, that is if you take out 2 letters in shoot and put another letter in their place.  :D
