?Recurve Leather Handle wrap - how to?
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:49:00 PM »
woudl liek to do a leather handle wrap on a td recurve. Have done a longbow handle type with good results. What's the trick when then handle is shaped like the typical recurve? Tim Mullins of Acadian woods has some on his bows. Is there a how to on Tradgang (NOT the ones showing long bow type handles)????
Any help/thoughts/advice is appreciated.

I'd like to know as well, but for a TD Longbow and a deep locator grip.

I have done several with awkward recurve shapes-if you want to lace you have to get it soaking wet and do a paper pattern first, and use a multi punch that makes 4 holes at a time.
If you are not going to lace do a pattern and skive the leather ends(use a skiving tool) where they over lap.
I don't type and this could get long...do some searches and be prepared for lots of trial and error. I wasted a lot of leather along the way.

I have done like Bjorn and had good results...It can take time but worth it in the end if you like the look ...I also like to look at all the pretty grain in my handles so now I don't do it as much... I also pat dry the leather to get rid of some water so it ain't sloppy wet but this helps shape the leather into the curves and such...
