Silk over wool???
« on: December 09, 2010, 09:19:00 AM »
I read somewhere (I think here on TG) that if you put your silk long u-wear over your wool long u-wear that this is much warmer, then silk under wool.
Anybody ever try this?? Is this true??

I think it's silk under wool......

:dunno:    I have always worn the wool over silk and seemed to stay warm.

Now if this works for socks, I gotta try it!

I wear silk over a light merino wool top. The wool top is form fitting and stays next to the skin. The silk is more wind resistant and helps keep your warmth in the wool top next to your skin. I like having both along as I can mix and match as need. The two of them together weigh next to nothing to carry. I like my clothing in layers so I can deal with quickly changing conditions we have in Western SD.

I like silk UNDER my wool.  Never thought of it the other way around.

Silk under works the best for me.

Silk UNDER for moderate temps, silk OVER for COLD temps.  Works good with the sythetics like that too...light under heavy for moderate and light OVER heavy for COLD.
