My 2011 Setup ?'s
« on: December 11, 2010, 03:13:00 PM »
Im a Bear Montana shooter, #55@28"! I recently purchased the German Pine shafts from KK, and after soaking the shafts and hand straightening them several times they came out very nice and heavy! They were 450gr before i soaked them in Watco Oil, and they put on 100gr from the soak alone, total finished arrow weight of 675(160gr head for spine)! I had to play around with my brace height a bit, but i believe im at that "Sweet Spot" for my bow/arrow combo! Now time to beat a dead horse  :deadhorse:  Elk 2011, Bear 2011, Everything Else 2011, broadhead options! Was wanting to shoot the WW, ive been practicing with some old Bodkins that i added lead shot to, to get to the 160gr head needed! WW seem to be fond of members here, and ive done all the searches possible and am still torn! Im shooting 12.27gpi, 14+FOC, adequate setup?

I have several 160gr Snuffers that i have used for bear, deer, turkey in the past with good results! None of which are as heavy duty as elk though, do i, even with the heavier arrow this year try them for elk? I did get full penetration on a bear over bait that was around 350lbs live weight! 17yd shot, and that was with Doug Fir(total arrow wt 640gr)!

Most definitely! I shoot the 125gr. Snuffers and they are excellent broadheads......I'd stick with them if I were you. The Wendsel Woodsmans are also fantastic BH's you can't go wrong with either one of those. Many followers of Magnus and WW's on this sight.

I hear alot of bad things about the snuffers regarding penetration, tip curling, etc. Ive experienced none of the above, in fact im on the other end of the spectrum, several animals have went down in sight, great bloodtrails and passthroughs are even the norm, but not always!

It seems to me a lower profiled 3 blade would be a good compromise between a 2 blade and a 3 blade!

If you like the Woodsman but want a 160 gr head, look into the VPA Terminator.  It's an excellent broadhead and one case of you get what you pay for.

I have some VPA's also, very easy to sharpen and very well made. Not cheap for a good reason!

I can get 3 bladers pretty sharp, but with the setup im going to use there would definately be a penetration advantage with the WW vs Snuffer would there not?
