Moscow Hide and Fur, if I post a link the thread will be pulled. They have pieces that will provide a good size. There may be other sellers as well. Hint: the last three words of the name with the usual stuff up front and back will take you to the website! LOL!

I believe, Abe Penner at Cari-Bow sales them. Also, Big Jim has them.

Look above in the "Trad Gang Sponsors list" and you will find the links.

Once again,Bjorn is right.Big Jims gets some awesome ones too.Just buy a tanned one though as tanning them yourself is too frustrating.

I have handled a couple of bows done with green (non tanned) tails and didn 't care for them. That is my personal opinion though. I have been offered more green tails than I can count and won't fool with having them tanned. Too much trouble for me.

thanks,bigjim

I had no idea that these were of any value?
I usually just dump mine along with the carcass and coyote hunt off it. I haven't started trapping yet this year, but when I do the beaver harvest will be on!

@Big Jim- Couldn't you just throw a bunch of them at one time in a bucket with the tanning solution? I suppose it's the working to make them soft that's a real pain in the arse?

Up here we cut around the edge of the tail, skin it off and let it dry and send then in with the furs. You don't get much for them but they don't go to waste and get tanned and eventually sold to us bowbuilders.    Bob

Oct./Nov. 2010 Trad Bowhunter mag has an article on how to do it. Just after reading it, I came across a big ol'beaver road kill. Tails in the freezer. Hope the wife doesn't find it!
