Wilderness Style Maine Bear Hunt ?
« on: December 15, 2010, 10:13:00 PM »
I would like to go to Maine on a Bear hunt and was wondering if anyone knows of an outfitter who gets off the beaten path to bait bears? No roads,ATV's, pick-ups or cabins. A nice tent camp accessed by water.

I haven't been there, but I have wondered the same thing.  Try Hunter's Point and Eldon Jandreau (spelling?).  I'm sure some other folks will chime in, but I've asked similar questions and his name comes up often.

I can't point you to an outfitter, but since I grew up in/around the Sebec lake region of Maine can say for certain you will have a blast doing what you describe.
I often hunted whitetail accessing areas by canoe and making a week long camp in the woods. Just an awesome way to experience the real North Woods Way.

NOTHING beats paddling across a lake at dawn to go hunt, or crossing over under a full moon on a crisp, windless, October night.

Good luck and hope you keep us informed.

This really would be a nice hunt.....If you find anyone that does it let me know, I would be interested also.  Maine is BEAUTIFUL, I would love to get back up there for the right hunt.
What would you attempt to do, if you knew you could not fail?

There are pretty much roads criss crossing every piece of land Ive seen in the Allagash region. Its been heavily logged much like the Adirondack. It would be nice to find out if there is true wilderness left  up there.

Click on the link to Hunter's Point Guide Service under my Avatar and read some of the comments from other hunters. I know there is a free public camping area a couple of miles from town where you can tent.I doubt that anyone will be using it during bear season. If you call and make arrangements with Eldon he can probably set you up on a bait that would suit you. He has to purchase his bait sites during the winter so I'de get in touch with him ASAP and see what he can do for you. If he can do it I am sure he will.

Adirondack Bowhunter, Horner, I'm an outfitter and traditional archer in Northern maine, I bait by truck and Atv, We have cabins with full services, But if you guys give me an idea of what your looking for and expectations. I have an outfitter tent and  can set a hunt to your needs. I do have some remote baits, but it would be a long hike in with out some sort of transportation, But hey i'm open minded.give me some ideas.
