Garmin Etrex Vista with EXPERTGPS is a pretty good combo.

The garmin 60 cx is a great unit.  I've had each of the generations of gps and saw this one in action in Alaska this year.  It is now on my list.

i am surprised that no one has listed the new Android phones, I use mine more than my GPS, it has a bigger screen and i can go right to google maps and see where I am and plot points.  I can also use the phone if I get hurt and give my exact cordinates.
