Proper spine surewood shaft for longbow.

The reason I have gone to carbon is good arrow flight with wood. I am going to drag my Hill Style longbow out of the closet and give it another try. Can someone give me a close spine range for #50 @ 26" draw, ff string. Would it be 45-50, 50-55 or 55-60. I've been told to go about 5# over bow pull but I don't know. That hasn't worked to well for me. All response needed.

Go to stu millers dynamic spine chart. It works I,ve used it and my arrows fly better with what was recommended by the chart

Buy a test kit, its the only sure fire way to know. You will get 100 different opinions.  The spine range you listed above would have the right one hiding.

For a 28" arrow and a 125 point a Hill bow will shoot a bit below draw weight, so get the 45-50's.  If you want a heavier point, these might do fine or just shorten them a little.  I can recommend Douglas Fir as a great arrow; Surewoods are the best these days.  Braveheart has parallel and I have tapered.

Pearl's suggestion for a test set is a great idea, too.

Fletcher , what you said is what has been recommended by the boys I shoot with. Lower spine will bend around the sight window better I'm told. Thanks for the response. Snowed in and I got time to piddle on the computer and making arrows. Life is good. To bad I gotta go back to work tomorrow.

FF string hammers an arrow.Expect to increase arrow spine by 15# using wood arrows.Best to get a test kit with varying spines.

Doug Besherse  used to have a great article online about arrow spine and things that effect spine.Mr Besherse recommends the increase in poundage with FF. I'm no expert so I get most of my info from people who like to really get into researching things.I don't shoot FF so I have limited experience with setting up a bow with FF.I do know that after getting a test kit my nephew shoots 70-75# woodies from his 60# Bear with FF.Take anything I say with a grain of salt.That's why like Pearl Drums I recommend getting a test kit.
