Woodsman Elites
« on: December 28, 2010, 01:05:00 PM »
From what I find. I think the 100 grain and 125 grain are both 1-1/8" cutting diameter. So I am wondering where is the extra 25 grains of weight was added in the 125's? Are they the same length or are they longer?

Thanks TJ

I think they are just longer.  All of them are 1 1/8 cut.  The 100 and 125 lose some weight by venting. I think the 150 and 125 are the same other than venting and weight.  I have a couple bows shooting 100 brass and 100 point.  I shot the 125 Phantom without the bleeders this year and have some 100 4 blade phantoms on the way, but plan to try the 100 VPA this spring.  The VPA has been easy for me to get reasonably sharp with a file.

Yeah don't know if the vent holes are just smaller on the 125's over the 100's or the actual head is longer?

Anyone know?

They are longer, 3rivers wrote back quickly. Here was their answer.

"The difference in the weight is in the length of the head. The 100 grain is the shortest, then the 125 and then the 150. At the 150 grain you get the 3-1 ratio which is the longest length and then the 175, 200 and 250 keep that same 3-1 length but the blade thickness increases to pick up the extra weight for each of those heads."

Good info.  I just wish I could get the 175's I have to spine my arrow right, but can't quite get the combo just right.  They sure shoot great even a little weak or stiff of just right.  Maybe the CX 250's I have started to work on will be the right spine for them.

I shot one head spring to fall and put it in the dirt and through targest all that time and had it about hunting sharp after 10 minutes with a file.  Great heads.  I do like that the VPA is not vented starting with the 150 gr. and that they have different colors to help ID the weights.

No the 200's are shorter but the blades are thicker. I've bent the blades on the 175's but not the 200's.

I'd like know what measuring device they are using to get 1 1/8".

Unless they have updated them since last year, they are lucky to be 1", maybe closer to 7/8".

They are a awsome head! I also agree they are 7/8inch but I don't mind they penetrate very well like a two-blade. I would rather have a 7/8inch hole than a 1 1/4 inch slit and I will be using them for a long time.  Widow

Dusty, the cirle is measuring devise to used to measure the cutting diameter.  Push the blade thru a sheet of paper, draw a cirle around the blade cuts and measure across the circle that is 1 1/8" and cutting diameter or close too.  If you measure across 2 blade that is 7/8" to 1" on the heads that I have but not the same as the diameter. dino

X2
I CAD'd 3 120 deg blades in a 1 1/8" circle and the blades measure 1" point to point.  Now I just need to go out to the barn and measure one of my 175's.

Yep the thinner the cutting diameter the more I like them also. I've found with my low poundage bows I get better penetration with smaller diameter heads. As Randy stated though, better check your states rules and regs before buying any head.

Kentucky is 7/8" minimum

Okay, that explains where they get their measurement.

I guess Magnus does not subscribe to the same method, as their 1 1/4" Snuffers are a lot bigger than the Elites, much bigger than the 1/8" difference stated.

the woodsman elites are 1" up to the 150 grain, and then they go to 1 1/8" in the weights above 150 gr. that is direct from 3 rivers archery.

Also here are the blade lengths if anyone is wondering.

"The 100 grain is 1-3/16", the 125 is 1-3/8" the and the 150 and up is 2-5/16" in length. These are just the blade lengths and not the over all length."

I found a pack of the update originals in my truck - have no clue where they came from do not remember ordering them. They say it is the new old ones where they straightened out the edges. Gonna mount them up tonight and see if they hiss like the original originals.
