If I could only hunt one animal a year it would be whitetail (385 miles from home)... but... that is not the case so.. I hunt elk 18 days every year, (only 50 miles from my front door)

Coyotes then squirrels and rabbits
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

Nothing blows my hair back like spot and stalk mule deer hunting.

As far as small game goes, cottontails.

I'm with Charlie.  Anymore I think I'd rather hunt small game with my kids than just about anything else.  I also really, really like hunting blacktail deer though.  Guess I'm glad I don't have to choose  ;)

I actually love stump shooting the most.  I like hunting, and seeing game is important.  Not so much GETTING game but once in a while that is important as well.  I like skwerl hunting a bunch, but don't have, or take, a lot of time to do it.  Wait till I retire !

oh...that is a good question!  And a difficult one to answer.

I think that during the 30+ years in Michigan that I hunted with trad gear I remember hunting anything that was legal...I always carried a small game arrow in my quiver but really never took too many little critters those days.

When my son Andy was old enough to learn the woods, I changed my focus and walked the sunny warm days with him when ever I had enough time.  Those days were just plain fun and relaxing.  There was no self-imposed pressure to harvest a monster buck.

I guess what Charlie said about being with a good friend (or family)- that is tuff to beat.  Nowadays, I would choose the small game hunt for the fellowship/friendship.

#1 Javelina ( hogs),#2 mule deer#3,antelope,#4 elk, it used to be elk(1) but maybe Iam getting old, they are alot of work. Javelina now because we dont take the hunting real serious just have a good time. You can shoot two of them then concentrate on hogs, so you get alot of shooting in and its a kick the ass.

Elk. Mulies spot and stalk are close, but elk will always carry the day.

Small game is my sport. Be it squirrel or rabbit. You just can't beat a day of walking around with your buddy(Son,Brother,Wife,Daughter,Etc) and enjoying the time spent together while doing something that all will remember and carry with them the rest of thier days.
Those days in the past and in the future I will never forget and always look forward to.

My favorite is a mature mule deer. Not that I don't shoot small ones but old mule deer are just so elusive they light a fire within me.

Small game is a toss up between cottontails and grouse. I have harvested more small game than all my big species combined. I have had just as much fun chasing the small game during many big game hunts than the speices that was I was hunting.
