Shooting carp from shore

I found out that it is legal for my son to bow fish, so now i want to get into it. Were are some good places to go in western NY or other places in NY, were you will get some shooting in from shore. I take it this would be the better time of the year to go?

I haven't had the chance to shoot any carp in many years and I have no idea where in your area you can find them. But I can tell you that in my experience when they are spawning they are much easier to locate. Around here in N.J. you will do good for yourself if pay you attention when the mulberries are dropping. That is another great time of year to shoot carp. I like to look for any mulberry trees that over hang the river or lake and then just toss a handful of pebbles into the water. If the mulberries have been dropping it's like ringing a dinner bell and the carp will come looking. Good luck, wish I could have been more help.

Russel station just outside of Charlote will have a bunch.Sodus bay from shore ????? I don,t know even the ponds (longpond area) may be hard from shore.I've done it from shore at Russel but it's hard to get good penatration from shore unless your pretty close the extra distance thru the water takes some steam outta the arrow where as shootin down from a boat is easier.I've also doneit from a canoe(standing) with my daughter at the controls for her first time and I stayed dry and even shot fish
It's a drive for ya(Russle station) but my house is kinda in between if ya want to borrow my canoe.I've got paddle's and life jackets

I might take you up on that Tom. By the way are you going to the Deerslayers Rendezvous?

Memorial Day, give or take a week, is usually spawn time. But, there's no reason you can't get a few at other times of the year in places with good populations. Call your local fish division office.
