original WWs
« on: January 05, 2011, 08:22:00 AM »
Had some of the wavy blade originals, loved the design, hated the hiss. Then the non vented came out and they upgraded the originals to alleviate design flaws. Still did not like the hiss but got a package of the upgraded originals as a present. Through t his pack in the cabinet and did not look back as I had some non vented to use as well as I knew these would hiss as before.

just for fun yesterday I took time to mount the originals on 100grain steel adapters as per my usual. Spinned them proper and went out to shoot them.

NONE HISSED!?? NOT ONE HEAD HISSED?

Is this hit and miss or what - going to put these to a hog here soon hopefully. Very happy these heads were not hissing a bit as the originals have really alwys been my favs.

Now back to follwing the Solana ranch thread.

Jason - I have shot the WW since before the beginning and never had one hiss - also worked with other bowhunters and have been into at least 80 different packs and I have never seen anyone elses hiss.

Like Cory...I have been shooting the WW since they came out, never had a "hissing" problem.
Great heads! It is all I shoot!

never a wensel hiss for me.  been shooting 'em since the day they wuz born.

the wensel (aka 'woodsman') is probably the easiest broadhead to get to fly well, to get scary sharp, and to do the most damage to critters than any broadhead ever invented.

i might add - hissing can come from a head that's not on straight, or from the feathers, or as a combination of head, feathers, and just bad flying.

Mine whistled dixie to the target! Everything I tried from remounting to new heads they hissed and sang.

These here were as silent as death's angel! Love the head and its design (all woodsman types) but originals are my favorites. I think the originals profile is the best yet, not sure if the VPAs or the non vent woodsmans profile matches the originals - my 175 screw in are slightly different - truly not enough to matter, neither here nor there.

I am just surprised to see them silent really. Glad yall never had the hiss, now I don't either.

launching at 10 to whatever yards from the critter, at a blistering arrow speed of 200fps, and knowing that sound travels at 1126fps, if the critter hasn't got bum ears it'll hear the arrow before it arrives.  guaranteed.

was at solana a few years back and those deer were WIRED spooky, and would duck down as soon as you release and no matter how quiet you thought you, yer bow and yer arrow was.  we all learned to aim well under the deer!

Rob, that's the norm here in Texas. If you aim at the spot you want to hit it won't be there when the arrow gets there.

I have always hunted with WW's and never had a problem with hissing.
