Just a presumption on my part, but I would say that deer hunters have the hogs all spooked and not easily paterened [/b]
Yep, the orange army has been invading their territory for three straight months around here.  They are largely nocturnal right now.  A few weeks after deer season is over they will start moving more in the daylight.

What Marty said.
The big pig CJ and I got on the one afternoon was a very close call.WE were "hanging" out in a spot I have had a lot of good luck in on past hunts. We heard some squeeling and it was a bit confusing. I heard it in one direction and CJ in the other.Easy explanation...two different groups of pork.We stood there trying to figure it out when we heard one kinda close. We headed for the pork.We knew they were close and we were sneaking but not stalking. I looked up at about 35 yards and there is a BIG Black stump. Its getting late and I look at it a second and it don`t move. CJ does the same...Big Stump. We press on a bit litening for the pigs we heard in here and then the BIG Stump stands up and starts clicking his teeth. I`m in front of CJ so I drop down to allow him room for a shot if one presents itself and the Big pig and his Buddy ease off without giving CJ the shot he wants. BIG BOAR. If I had thought pig instead of stump we could have maybe injuned up on him but I thought it was a stump. My Bad.RC

Mistaking a big hog for a big black stump.......low light........I guess it's understandable.

NO WAY! I taught you better than that RC!!!!

Just kidding, I've done it too

I had two excellent opportunties.... ended up missing a small one at about 20 yds trying to catch up with the rest of the group..... The pigs were there , the sign was there, and the swamps are beautiful....Lateseason hunting anywhere is always a tad harder because the game has been pressured and the deer were extremely jumpy. I will be back for sure.  This was the most exciting hunting this northern boy has had. Now I can see what all the fuss is about hunting these pigs......and R.C. is as fine as they come... Again I enjoyed you fellas company and look forward to it again. I`m looking forward to Turkey season and snapped this pic on the third morning when TJ and Steve hunted together and I hunted my Turkey Drain. Can`t wait till March...Look in the center of the pic standing on the horizontal limb. RC

One good thing about hunting the Fort this time of yesr is no snakes, gators and skeeters to worry about.  Those 3 things plus the heat can be nearly unbearable, especially to those from up north, when the hunting is great - RC seems to be immune to it.

One of the most interesting things about hunting there is how the animals react to the target practice.  Kinda distracting to me when the machine guns open up nearby, but the hogs don't even care.  Also interesting when a wayward tank comes blasting through a firebreak or road, where they are not 'sposed to be.  And I've had hogs rooting right around the tent at night in the base campground.  Very interesting place.
