WindShear Lining Alternative?
« on: January 13, 2011, 09:06:00 PM »
I have a set of the Cabelas Outfitter Fleece and they have the WindShear lining...I know that some people say the WindShear lining is quiet...but my set is noisy when I bowhunt in COLD weather....I really like the way the WindShear lining works in blocking the wind but the noise bothers me...I don't want anybody to get into a debate about the noise...what I am looking for is some suggestions (from actual bowhunting expeience) in absolutley and totally bowhunting quiet clothing...that also has exceptional wind blocking ability in the  clothing too!...we really do have cold weather in Georgia and I usually go up to bowhunt Illinois in November...Thanks!

I had a set of very thick wools until i wore them out. They did a pretty good job of stopping the wind.As it wore over the years i could feel the wind more and more.I've got the cabelas berber fleece coat and bibs with the wind stop. And a set of predator fleece with wind stop lineing. The best way i've found to make it quiet is to put a layer of fleece under my outer layer. You may want to give it a whirl.

Buckskin over wool is about as warm and wind proof as you can get plus it's quiet.

Name brand Gore Windstopper works and is quietand breathes well. Many "knockoffs" are really noisy.

Yes wool, with the Asbell windproof vest. Used it about 8 times this year with windchill in the 8 to 22 range and have been very pleased.

Thanks for the good input....I appreciate the good ideas.....in forty years plus of bowhunting you would think I would already have this clothing thing (wind problem) figured out....I would hate to have to take an inventory of my bowhunting clothing....I have almost as many sets of camo clothes as my wife has pairs of shoes...ALMOST not quite!....that is how I justify buying more camo/bowhunting clothes, is to compare my need for more bowhunting clothing to her need for another pair of shoes....keep the suggestions coming!

I have the Cabela's Fleece with windstop and it quited down after washing but I second wearing fleece as an outer layer up against the lining. I did not notice any noise on this last trip to Solana.

Wash it in Borax It's a natural fabric softener. I use it on all of my hunting clothes.

Thanks...I will try washing it in Borax...might work...I have tried to wear layers over my Winshear clothing but it becomes to bulky and I am not comfortable with the movement restriction when drawing a bow.....

Rocky if my post was not clear I meant wearing a fleece layer under the windshear.

look at wind shirts made for golfing.  They are colorful so must be worn under something, but work very well.  Get em off season and they are cheap.

I've always used a tennis wind suit beneath the fleece.

I predominately use Cabelas hunting clothing and did not have a problem with wind penetration with fleece, wool, or microtex without the windshear. Keep in mind however I am in Florida and though we have strong cold winds, I am not quite sure how much worse the conditions are further north.

Yep, wear a nice thick wool sweater against the interior of the Windsheer - it deadens the noise.

The golf wear is a nice idea...Maybe that is why Davis Love III has 3000 acres that he hunts on the Flint river....might try the idea, even though Golf is a four lettered word
