Hunting in AR NOW
« on: January 21, 2011, 08:37:00 PM »
Anyone in Arkansas, especially in SE part, or any part of the US with similar woods and weather,  having any success encountering deer in the daylight hours right now.  I know I am in woods where deer exist in suitable numbers but they seem to start moving a few minutes before dark.  Haven't had a chance to get out in the morning.  I think my shooting ability exceeds my ability to see deer and get a shot.  Any tips?

I saw a whole lot of deer in Oct but pretty flat since then.  I know I'm hunting public land but dang I thought I would see something by now.

I have seen deer just not while in my stand.  Usually see them as I'm driving to or from camper.

Yes, before acorns fell, I could pattern them.  But now I know I have hunted some good places, but seemingly always at the wrong time.  This evening one blew about 70 yards from me.  Could have been my scent but only if the wind had shifted.

Not in the southeast but we have 500 acres on the Red River in the Soutwest corner of Arknasas. I plant food plots for them and it is not hard for me to see 10 to 15 on one stand while my brother will be on another stand and see the same amount or more or sometimes less. However this time of the year they just seem to disappear. We can hunt our zone until Feb. 28th but I usually quit in late December or early Jan. Just something about shooting a doe thats been bred, and it is really hard to find a buck at this time.

Up here in NWA it's always just really tough to see them this time of year.  I saw a couple yesterday evening quite a ways out.  They pretty much tend to go nocturnal after gun season and it takes a long time for them to settle down.  Couple that with the change in their feeding patterns and it just gets tough.

I am going to Big Timber just out of Gurdon and set a stand this week, time should be right just after the full moon and all.  They are just now starting to move now it seems.  I will also be going to Wynonna and check my spot out for sign time should be goo there also, I hope.
