Glue in / on adapters
« on: January 22, 2011, 10:29:00 AM »
Hi guys - I am looking to make a change to my arrows and am seeking some feedback on a product.

I am currently shooting 400 spine Beman Bowhunter arrows with feathers, 100 grain inserts and 125 grain Stinger broadheads.  This set up has worked well for me an flies great.  However I am currently paying around $190.00 a dozen once they are finished and ready to hunt.

I am considering using the same shaft and going to the glue in / on adapters and 160 grain LW Grizzlies.  I have been wanting to try these heads and I can make up a dozen for around $120.  Do any of you have any experience with these:  Broadhead glue in / on adapter  ? Are they tougher than the aluminum glue in / screw in adapters?  Because I can do those for around the same price.  Also I foot all of my shafts so splitting at the insert is not an issue.  Thanks for your help!

Those work very well, we carry them also.  They are certainly stronger than an aluminum adapter.  The broadhead tapers on them are fairly short though, so a good glue bond is very important.

Actually I was looking at the ones on your site but the link I provided made sure nobody got confused like in the other posts I saw.  I thought they would be stronger than the screw in Magnus aluminum adapters and maybe better than screw in steel due to the greater diameter, but I don't know.  When you say the tapers are short do you mean the angle or the length of the taper?  Think they would work well with the 160 grain Grizzlies or are they designed with a different head in mind?

I was referring to the length of the taper.  They will work fine with just about any head that's 11/32" in the ferrule.

Justin; I shoot the LW grizzlies using glue in steel screw in adapters. 125gr grizzlies and 75gr adapters for a total of 200gr broadhead. If you want a more weight you can vary the combos they make also 100gr adapters and heavier grizzlies. Also someone makes titanium adapters, which are stronger yet. My setup works great for me Good Luck Don

I've used them before, but I prefer the brass inserts and the glue on/screw in adapters.  That way I can swap out the broadheads for judo or field points and use the same arrow.

imho, inserts (alum or brass) allowing better tweaking/tuning than brass taper inserts.

for example, a typical standard 22 grain alum insert can be used with screw-in adapters ranging in weight from 42gr to 125gr, coupled with glue-on  points/broadheads ranging from 100gr to 300gr.  lots of room for testing and tweaking.

most of my carbons use 100gr grass inserts, 125gr steel adapters, 125gr points.  a very potent front end package.

I have some but never got around to using them. The 100's have a 1/2" long taper and the 125's are 9/16" long.I don't have any short aluminum adapters in front of me but these look longer than those, just not as long as full length adapters.

Well part of the reason I am looking at the glue in / glue on adapters is because of strength.  I have broken and bent screw in aluminum adapters on Zwickeys (did not come with the Zwickeys - they may have been junk) and was wondering if this might be the best solution strength wise.

Whip - That is why I was using the 100 grain brass inserts and 125 grain stingers.  That system works great for me and I have not had any problems with it.  In fact I love the modularity of it and I have yet to break or damage a Stinger - that point refuses to curl and I have curled a number of other heads.  Great.  See what you did - I almost have myself talked into not changing anything!    :biglaugh:

Rob - that is the other choice I was considering.  Using steel adapters and broadheads with the standard aluminum insert would yield arrows of about the same price as the glue in / on adapters.  I was a little nervous about the quality of the steel adapters because there was some complaining last year about the 75 grain steel adapters breaking and other weights bending.  I have bent some aluminum inserts in the past, but i think the fact that I foot my arrows could solve that problem.   I have a LOT of those aluminum inserts around since I have been using the brass inserts for a while now and the aluminum ones come with the arrows for free.

Longstykes - I am trying to go LESS expensive here. Titanium sounds spendy            :D    Have you had good luck with the 75 grain adapters?

Thanks for all of the replies.  With all of the extra shooting and roving my wife and I have been doing the arrow cost is starting to add up!
