Minwax here too. It has a sealer in it that seems to make my first coat of poly not soak in as much so it gives it a higher build.

I use brown latex paint.  I wipe it on and rub it in, when I reach the shade i want, I wipe with a clean cloth. Dries in minutes and holds on to the poly or oil finishes.

I use the water-based 3 Rivers Archery stain and then a few coats of tung oil.  Nice tough finish.

The Fiebings Leather dye really does a good job, especially on woods that don't take stains as well.

I like the coffe idea.  We go thru so much at work, I started saving some of the grounds to ferment a few days, and see how it turns out.

I sell an alcohol based stain and we always sell a bunch of it at the shoots we attend.  There must be a few people other than me that like it.  12 different colors.

I usually used minwax special walnut.  Apply more coats for a deeper color.  Once I tried gasket lacquer squegie system I never sealed with anything else.  Good Luck and have fun.

I sure will Jeff. I'll probably give it a go tomorrow and see. It's not my idea though. Saw it on here awhile back.
