Bear Hunting 2012
« on: January 31, 2011, 03:25:00 PM »
I am going to plan a Bear Hunt in 2012 and wanted to know of some good outfitters that are dedicated to good habits including Bow Hunting.

Looking at either Maine or Ontario  for these hunts

Any Help would be appreciated

Thanks Rob

I am booked with Ryan in Manitoba

http://stickflingers.com/  It's not either spot you were interested but it looks like a great hunt! I can't wait, and after how well I have been treated so far, this experience is gonna be A-plus!

Tony Boucher at Sqapan Mountain Outfitters caters to trad archers. Plus he's a great all-around guy and trad archer himself.

I havn't hunted in Maine, but have in Ontario.  Had two good hunts in Ontario, but if you're looking to stay towards the east, I'd recommend New Brunswick.  The bear hunting there is fantastic, much better than I've experienced other places.  Bigger bears I think too.

Hunter's Point Guide Service, Portage Maine, Eldon Jandreau.  Longbow shooter himself, lots of active baits with close shots, will work hard to make it an enjoyable trip. Super guy to deal with.

Another tip of the hat for Eldon.  Been five times and can't imagine a better hunt or guy to hunt with.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Another vote for Hunter's Point. But then again, I'm a bit prejudiced.

Please check out the website and understand that Eldon, himself, hunts with a longbow and prefers bowhunters. All his sites are bowhunting compatible and he never sets a hunter on a site that isn't currently active.

It depends alot on what you are looking for.  Do you want to fish.  Do you want to camp or stay in a lodge.  Do you want to take over your bait and drive yourself to your stand or do you want the outfitter to. Do you want to prepare your own food or have it included in the package. Make sure you check references.  I can pm you one place I would highly recommend and one place I don't.
