Help me get rid of the "Tink" ...

I have a Horne's Brush Bow (53@29) that I'm getting a fairly significant "TINK" sound from when I shoot. I 99% sure it's not the string. It sounds like the arrow contacting the shelf/riser. Problem is I'm shooting full length (30.5") GT 33/55's with 250gr. up front (I'd think they'd be a tad weak if anything, and I usually go for a little weak rather than too stiff.)
Usually, when I've heard the shaft hitting the riser it was because the shaft was too stiff. Will a weak shaft make a similar sound?

If my brace height gets too low, my bow will make a sound similiar to that. Could check that first.

Sounds daft, but try a new string. I had exactly the same trouble with my Navajo. I tried EVERYTHING! New arrows, drop/raise the brace height, everything. It never used to do it & then suddenly, it did! A fresh string stopped it instantly.

Did you think about giving Mark Horne a call? I am quite sure if you talk to Mark he will probably have an answer for you. The Horne's are great people to deal with. Great customer service!!!

I chased a sound for days untill I discovered it was the string hitting a shirt button on the pocket.
Another time it was hitting my sleeve .
Have some one else shoot it and see if the problem is realy in the bow.

I worked with a bow for a YEAR and tried all types of spines and FINALLY got rid of it by accident when I changed from dacron to a FF string. Boy was I suprised!

Thx for the replies. I decided to just "start from scratch" again. Didn't have any bare shafts, so I took the fletchings off a couple of shafts and began from the beginning (so to speak). Fiddled with brace height, nock height, shaft length and point weight for hours. Quite a bit better now but make a bad release and you'll know it.

If it is a takedown it could be the limb connection. Try some string wax on the limb joints. Also make sure you string silencers are at the 1/4's on the string, ie, measure the string from where it touches the limb on one limb to where it touches the limb on the other. Divide this by 4 and that is where you put the silencer. If the distance is 48" divide by four, that gives you 12" so measure down from where the string touches each limb 12" and put the silencer there. Just some thoughts.

Are your nocks too tight on the string?

Is it a takedown? If so, you can try string wax on the riser at the limb connection areas. Apply liberally on both limb attachment areas.
I've had several bows that required that..and I prefer it to adding moleskin etc because the wax will actually help keep moisture out of the area where moleskin will actually attract and hold moisture.
Just a thought. Could be lots of stuff..as related by others.
