? about bow selection/observation?
« on: February 08, 2011, 01:06:00 PM »
It seems from looking at harvest pictures that most western (not all) game are taken with a longbow, where  as the majority of critters east of the Mississippi seem to be taken with a recurve

can someone shed anylight on this or am I getting ready to go off the deep end...

not trying to start a debate on  which is better

Interesting observation-if accurate; why don't you devise some kind of poll?

Interesting.  I've seen a fair number of western critters taken with recurves.  Poll might be a way to get at it definitively.  Most hunting out West is done from the ground and longbows are generally a bit lighter and probably easier to carry than recurves, but neither is very heavy compared to  mechanical arrow launchers.  I seem to be a little faster in target acquisition/shooting with a longbow than I am with a recurve, which is a plus when hunting from the ground. I tend to be a little more deliberate with a recurve, which can be a plus when hunting from a tree stand "in the east." Regardless, I do almost all my hunting with a longbow, whether I'm east or west of the Mississippi.  I expect most others hunt with the type of bow they most like, whether recurve or longbow, wherever they hunt. We need a poll.    :)
