need a solution for the kwyk styk
« on: February 09, 2011, 09:33:00 AM »
Just switched back to shooting one of my kwyk styks but it seems to be pretty noisy. I've got a new fast flight string with outer silencers. But I'm sure that it used to be more quiet. My brace height is around 7 3/8" and silencers are about 9.5" or 10" from the end of the string. Looking for advice or suggestions.

Try padding the string grooves. It seems to really quiet down my curves!

Ahhh... a question near and dear to my heart...the Kwyk Styk!

Try bringing your brace up to 7 3/4" and depending on the your bow length...My two are 56"... divide the length of by string by 4 and put your silencers on the quarters(1/4-3/4)....if that doesn't work. Divide the same amount of silencer material and also put silencers on the 1/3's....

One of mine likes the four selencers, the other is fine with two...but both the same amount of material.

Hush puppies are the best I've found...also a little bow hush on the ends will help with string slap in the limbs.

If I've confused you, I can show a picture of what I mean......

Bow Hush was designed for limb slap on recurves....it certainly wont hurt.  It weighs much less than the adhesive padding.

Also, you might check the brace...sounds low to me....

Guru,

Do you divide the overall string or the string from where it leaves each limb?

Also I've found a padded loop string helps a lot. I shoot relatively light arrows and this has been a savior for my bows. String makers use something not as hard on the limb grooves and makes them much quieter. For example if a FF string material is ordered, the string makers could pad the loops with a B-50 material. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

Always said put three different strings on a bow and you will have three totally different bows.

Thanks guys, I'm going to start fooling around with it after supper. Guru I wouldn't mind seeing a picture. I've got 2 of these bows, one is really quiet and the other not so much. The only difference is the string.

Hey Grinch, I'd get rid of the wife before those two bows.

As Guru said try brace at 7 3/4 and beaver fur on the string. Mine is very quiet. How heavy are your arrows? Mine are 540grs at 54 pounds. Good luck,Randy.

Randy,  my arrows are around 650g. I have 2 sets of limbs for my 56inch,55# & 65#. My 58inch is 56# which is the quiet one. I'm starting to think the string might be the solution and then fine tune it. Thanks once again for the information and I'm going to try that bow hush.
