Your Thoughts on the PCH after shooting for awhile.
« on: February 09, 2011, 05:11:00 PM »
My son is wanting to try a PCH and I wondered what your thoughts were after shooting for some time. Are you still happy with it? Did you like it better when you 1st shot it? Any thoughts and opinions appreciated.

I don't own one but I have shot one many times. My friend always says, here take a few shots. Every time I  do that I hit what I'm looking  at right off. I like them, have not got the urge to buy one yet but the way I shoot them it's something to think about. With the shorter riser I do like the longer working limb.

I like mine better than any Black Widow recurve I have ever had. It is quick and very quite for a widow.  Will buy another one some time.

I've had one since November. I like it more each time I shoot it. As a matter of fact, I picked up another used one as a back up. I also have a PTF that's nice but I like the PCH better.

I have 60" PCHX currently and a 58" PCHX due in tomorrow. I have been shooting a 60" for about a year now and really like it. I have owned or shot all of the BW bows and the PCH IMO is the smoothest. I have a 30" draw.

Ron W hit the nail on the head, the shorter riser with longer working limbs are the key.

So the to answer you question, yes I am still as happy with it as I was on day one.

I mostly hunt and stump shoot so the pchx fits the bill for me. If all I did is target and 3d I would most likely only own a PSAX 62". If this makes any sense?

I have had a couple PSA's and a PCH.  I have shot all the other BW TD recurves and the LB's.  The PCH is my favorite.  I shot the one I had about 4 months and liked it better all the time.   I had a real nice X cocobolo 60”.  I decided it was too nice to hunt, and I wanted to go down to the 58” bow if I can find one in a I, II, or cross grain.  I also wanted to cash up for the Kalamazoo Expo just in case.  I am really not into recurves much, but this one is still on my bow list.

Im going against the grain on this one. I owned a very custom CHX for a while. At first I loved it. Was wondering why all the complaints about how loud it was, cause mine wasn't. After a while I put mine down and picked up my longbows again. A few months of longbows and back to my widow again, and holy moly it was loud. Thought something may have changed on the bow. I tried different silencers, different string, different arrows, but it was still louder than I remembered and I ended up selling it cause I couldn't cope with it. I came to the conclusion that it was just me. The Widow although quiet, would never be as quiet as my longbows. As far as everything else goes, it was great. It points and shoots very well. I would just have to shoot it with ear plugs to satisfy my ear drum. Mine was 58" #46@28"

Ive always wanted to try a Widow 1 piece curve, and will here real soon. Im hoping it will meet my expectations.

Good luck with your choice.

I am the proud owner of extrema312's pchx cocobolo and all I can say is this is a natural shooter. I like the compact riser and heft. It seems shorter than it is. This is also one of the most beautiful risers I have seen.  I have only shot a few hundred arrows out of it but it is fast becomming my favorite.

I got my first Widow in 1992 a MA "Greybark"
shot if for a few years. When they came out with the "Ironwood series in 2001 I got myself a MAV and that bow has traveled all over, after reading many reviews here and other places I placed an order for a PCHV last March and received the bow in June. To me it is the best shooting Widow I have owned, it is quieter than my others and I love the low grip. PCHV 56" & 52 @ 28"
     I would test drive one.

Shorter riser, and longer working limb, as stated above is key to me.
I have a 60" PSA, and a 58" CHX.  Both are the same draw weight. They feel exactly the same because of the different riser lengths.
The long and short of it is, I have got the advantage of a 58" hunting bow with 60" widow characteristics.  I like it more now than the day I got my first PCH.

I am the one that bought zmonster's CHX.  It was loud to me as well, when I first received it.  I happened to have a SBD 8 strand D10 laying around that fit the bow and it made it very quiet.  It's still not "longbow quiet", but I did kill 4 deer with it this last October, so it must be quiet enough.  Probably my favorite Widow of the several that I have owned.  I think it's due to the smoothness and the fairly light weight of the smaller riser without phenolic.

I had an unknown FF string that I think was about an 8 strand with bow hush and wool silencer on mine.  I had the brace height up at max recommended.  It was the quietest shooting widow I have shot.  It is not quite as quiet as my LB's, but it is real close and a quieter than some hybrids I have shot.  I am convinced you have to ditch the factory widow string.  My last PSA had three widow strings will every type of combo of silencer I could come up with, heavy arrows, and the best brace height I could find.  It was way louder than the PCH.

To top these responses, one would have to shoot the PCH themselves.
