Rubber cat wiskers (the thick ones)
« on: February 09, 2011, 07:33:00 PM »
I shoot with rubber cat whiskers on my string to quiet the string down. My buddy showed up the other day with some pretty nice rubber cat whiskers on his string. These were thicker then any I've ever used, look pretty cool and worked great. Anybody know where I can get a set of the thick cat whiskers?

Cheers

Check stores that sell materials to make fishing lures.  I buy mine at a place called Janns Netcraft and $1 gets me enough for a bunch of strings and they have tons of colors.

Yep, Jan's Netcraft is where I get mine. You can find them online.

Is it the round rubber skirt material? Have you tried the silicone too? Great idea

The insides of some shot/stretch cord have a couple varying thicknesses. Can be got from rubber shops/hardware etc. Check the end to see the size of the fibers inside. Cut along the outside material with a light box cutter, have found I have to play with double the length I think is required and trim later was better than coming up short

Buz bait skirts are great.

Just placed an order with Janns netcraft. The rubber skirt material is cheap $1.49 each but shipping is $7. I ordered three extra sets that I plan to hussle off on my buddies to make up the difference. Hows that for being a cheap tight wod?

I bought some of the bass skirts at Bass Pro thinking they would be good alternatives to Cat Whiskers. I was disastisfied. They were thinner and not round. At least the ones I bought weren't. They weren't any cheaper either. Some of you must have found better stuff for better prices.  I'm back with the Cat Whiskers -- I like to think of Jerry pulling them from Tom's maw anyway!
