Moose Hunting Trad Guys
«

I am posting to maybe get some current info from any of you fellows who have gone Moose hunting in Ontario recently.
My Buddy and I are researching now for a hunt we have both wanted to do (Moose) for a long time.We want to drive there, not fly. (NJ)
We don't want to go where there is one tag for two hunters, I want him to have an opportunity after I slay my Behemoth
Any info you guys can share would be much appreciated, guides, camps, locations etc.

You better pack a lunch if both of you are going to shoot a moose, then quarter both out then get around to packing both out. Maybe there is a reason they have a 2 for one deal.

I hunt moose in Ontario but I am a resident and I don't know anything about outfitters and non-resident info. A two hunters for one tag is a good deal. What in the world would you do with the meat from a whole moose. We had a couple of years where we divided a moose up three ways and it took a long time to eat!

I realize it is more meat than my 6x6 Elk but I went thru that pretty quick with six mouths to feed and a big family all close. believe me it will go.
Plus the way i feel about it is this, if I am going to lay out thousands of dollars I want to hunt, not be a spectator because of a roll of the dice. I may not ever get a second chance.
Anyhow, that is just me, I understand others may see it differently.
So did anyone get up there in 2010?

Been on a couple of bear hunts in northern Ontario, just about every outfit offers a Moose hunt. The ones I have talked to say your odds are about 1 in 4. Some have bull tags and some don't and that can vary from year to year. If you are just looking for meat your odds go up some.
Only advice I can give is start sending emails and get references, then email them also. I don't think you will beat the price of a Moose hunt in Ontario.
And by all means do it! It is my dream hunt also, but I am afraid I have waited too long.

I understand the point of each of you wanting to at least have a chance to get one.
Two and sometimes three tags per moose is the main detriment as far as non-resident Quebec moose hunting goes.
As for work, I have cut up and taken care of many moose in the wilderness by myself (legal as long as you are part of a hunting excursion with one or more other licensed hunters) or with my wife (which reminds me of a certain movie scene): She's scrawny but she's strong! LOL)
Finding someone to share the meat with is not a problem (a moose lasts about two days where I live LOL!)

Find a good outfitter in another province like Alberta or BC and go there for 1 on 1 hunting.
