Mississippi Hog Huntin?
« on: February 15, 2011, 06:57:00 PM »
I am itching to head south and do some hog huntin, I wonder if anyone can tell me how the hunting is near Hattiesburg,MS. Is there much public land near the area and are there enough hogs to make it worth the drive? I have family there, so the lodging would be cheap!

There is public land nearby (Desoto National Forest) and there are hogs. Every county in MS has feral hogs. You might go to MDWFP.com and contact the Chickasaway Wildlife Management office in Laurel. They can tell you areas that have hogs. The Leaf River Wildlife Management area probably has a better hog population. Drew

Mike............

You can only hunt hogs with a bow/broadheads during an open big game season. Check the regs carefully.

The regs say that between opening day of archery deer to the end of Feb. You are restricted to using a weapon that is legal for the game season that is open. From March first to the day before opening of archery there are no weapon restrictions.I don't know much about hunting in hattiesburg area but the Delta area is good.
