Silvertip Setup
« on: June 12, 2007, 01:51:00 PM »
I just ordered a new Silvertip about a month ago. I got impatient a bought a used one from a fellow Tradganger this week. What brace height do you ST fanatics find works best?

Right now, this bow has a Bear Weather Rest on it. I've never shot a raised rest, but thought I'd give it a try. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. This one will keep me busy until my new one gets made! What a sweet bow.

My brace height is from 7 1/4 -7 1/2.  I also shoot an elevated rest.  The bows that Dave makes to shoot off a rest come with the Bear rest.  I have 2 silvertip takedowns; one that Paul made for me, and one that Dave has made for me.  Both brace heights are about the same.

I have an older one made by Paul. I was told by the previous owner to start at 8". I found it likes about 8 1/8 to the deepest part of the grip. I'm not sure where others measure to. It had a rest on it when I got it and shot well with it, but I took it off just "because" and it shoots great off the shelf too. I don't think you'll be disappointed in your tip.

Mine is 7 3/4", measured to the inside of the string. I shoot it off the shelf.

I've Been Shooting 'tips since 1982. best brace heights for me have been 73/4 " for dacron and 71/4" for FF ! Quiet and stable. Good luck and have some fun, they are great shooters!

Dave made mine for me in 1998.  My brace height has always been 8 1/8". Thats with a Dacron B-50 string. Measured to the deepest point of the handle.

Ok another question. What is the correct string length for a 60" Tip? This used one needs a new string.

Jeff, I got her dialed in pretty good today---look out ATAR!!!

56" String

I find the brace height on all my FF 60" tips to be perfect at right around 7 1/4 to 7 1/2...........

Super quiet and super fast

Thanks Tim, I finally got the Paul Schafer Tip sent off, hope he likes it.

If anyone has limb pics, I would appreciate them also. Still a little undecided on the ones for my new Tip.

I was told by Beth that a 60" tip takes a 55" string and that is what mine uses.

Guys, I just called Beth to make sure. She said the Dacron 60" takes a 55" and the FF 60" takes a 56".

Hey Bill M, what kinda woods are you getting in your new Tip???
