Scored Arrows and Quiver
« on: February 24, 2011, 10:19:00 PM »
I was doing a trade with a guy in OKC and he threw in some wood arrows and a quiver.  I don't know what they are spined for but 2 of them are fitted with what I think are old Bear Razorheads.  I thought it was a pretty good score.  Picture isn't very good because all I have at home right now is my phone. The arrows are painted yellow with yellow tinted feathers and a white cock feather.  They are very straight.  Should I just shoot them in my 53 lb Northern Mist longbow or somehow test spine first?

If there is nothing wrong with them (cracks etc) I would shoot them and see how they do.  Don't know unless you try.

Do a check first .Take the head in one hand and the nock in another and flex it and listen and look (cracks and cracking sounds) turn it a 1/4 away around and do it again. You will feel whether its not good or really flexible. if its good shoot it.

See a broken shaft in someone's arm you'll always check spine & arrow condition first. Do the quarter turn test & a half-draw flight test. Not rocket science but just be careful is all.

Thanks for the advice guys.  I will check them before shooting and do the half draw shots too.

Also, check the nocks.  If the arrows are old, sometimes the plastic in the nocks breaks down.  It will break when you are shooting, that is almost a dry fire.  Bill
