3d deer target question.

I have been looking at 3d deer. How little can I spend and still have a semi descent target.I like the price of the deltas but some of the revues are hard to pull and when you shoot it the head fall off. we dont want that. This is for my back yard not a course or club. any one who has   had theirs for a while I would like to hear your thoughts.. Layers vs. solid vitals. I seen one with painted lungs bones and heart. Thats cool but how long would that last?thanks

My wife bought me a glendale buck with the big layered replacemant section. I thought it was the most hideous thing I'd ever seen. I didn't like it at all but I couldn't make myself return it for a different buck. Turns out I really like it. It is about 2 years old and I haven't had to replace anything. The head is getting loose but it stays on. I shot my delta in two from hitting just above and below the replacement vital after just over a year. My mackenzie hog has a huge hole in the vitals but to replace the midsection I can buy a whole target of another brand for about the same money. jmo. mike

If you plan on leaving it outside I would suggest building a small structure to keep the sun and rain off of it. It will last alot longer.

Buy one of Mckenzie's new durafoam 3D's. The foam is much softer than the original stuff and arrows pull much easier. The foam also closes up fairly well after you pull your arrow. If ya really want durability buy one of Rineharts 3D targets. Yup, there expensive but will last a very long time. I bought two about 5yrs. ago and they still look like new. Myself,my wife,son and daughter all shoot 5 out of 7 days a week at them. Best investment I ever made on a 3D target and I've tried them all.

I have to add that when the targets were new Rinehart suggested treating the targets with a water- based waterproof sealer. I use Ace hardwear brand seal-tech. I just brush it on once in the begining of the spring to protect them from sun and rain and they stay looking like new.
 This my sound a bit anal but I haven't bought a target in 5 years.

The Rinehart's are great! Look at the broadhead buck(replaceable vitals) or the treestand buck(non replaceable vitals), they are alot cheeper than their larger deer targets and hold up just as good (same material and nice and thick).

I've had a Delta for a little over 3 years.  It's not noticably harder to pull arrows from it than from my buddy's Mckinsie and I don't have a problem with the head falling off.  What I really don't like is the legs - just hollow plastic.  If you hit low (or have your D!@&^$#% string nock keep slipping up!!!) it's a bear to get the arrows out of the leg or leg socket.
For the price though it's hard to beat.  My .02

I have a "backyard buck" from basspro.  I spray it with a protectant like amorall and my wife made a nylon cover for it and it seems to be lasting.  I shoot just broadheads and replaced the kill section about onece a year.

Does anyone have any experience with the Cabela's 3D targets? Are they made by one of these other companies (Delta, MacKenzie, etc.) for Cabela's? They seem to be pretty reasonably priced and most have good reviews.

I am starting to think about a triple exelsior and some paper deer targets when I feel the need..not as fun though

I buy the cheapest one I can find, and replace it every few years...You can find them for less than $100, makes a good fathers day, birthday, Xmas present!!!!!!!!!!

I would try going to a club that is replacing targets. buy a deer from them. then buy a replacment insert fron rineheart and cut deer to fit. the replacement core for a rineheart are not to bad as far as cost and last a long time and are the easest to pull arrows from.

Im looking around for a 3D hog to try this with.

Every year my three kids chip in on a holiday and usually buy one of Cabela's Backyard Bucks for me.They're around 69 or 79 bucks plus shipping then the next year one buys me the replacement vitals after two years I think you have your moneys worth out of it.Then I usually give it to my bud. Just imagine if you had to go to a 3-D range every day. Also the biggest thing is keeping it out in the weather out of the weather it will definately last longer. Plus if you shoot broadheads into it. What I do is shoot the dickens out of it with field tips up until about a month before the season, then switch to broadheads just to make sure they're flyimg right.By that time your ready to change the vitals.

Take a look at R&W 3-Ds out of North Carolina.  They have a web site are reasonable in price.  
I have the feeding deer 3-D and plan on purchasing the wild hog or the walking turkey.

I recently purchased a Delta Elite Javalena with a replacable kill zone for about $115 shipped,and I'm really satisfied with it. I think there is a "target war" going on right now because everyone is trying to match Rinehart which is the best.
