Katie, I just wanted to help you out a little. If I offended you you have my apologies.
Accurate descriptions matter in this stuff. You can see all the confusion resulting from the original description of what was happening to your string because no one was really sure.
Honestly, having a wood bow is really, really different from having a take-down glass lam bow.

I usually stand it in the corner, but now I'll go out and get some pegs... Is it ok to set it on the arm rest on chairs in the fashion you would on pegs, until I get the pegs? Or are they too bulky?

You should have at least 2 strings for that bow anyway....so get another one and set it up. Then take this string in question to your bow guy who knows whats up and show him.... see what they think. Under 20 bucks for a freshy....money well spent. Cant get a new bow for that....thats for sure!

Mike is right but when you said recurve I figured it was a glass bow! All wood bow than yes unstring after shooting. Shawn
