Im trying to work out a point/insert/adapter combo and need to know which adapter would be best suited for the STOS regarding the aluminum screw in variety.....LONG OR SHORT adapter?

JimB

I like longer adapters for more glue surface and I feel it may line up the head more precisely or at least with less effort. But you are talking about two different front end weights and you would have to tune accordingly.

LookMomNoSights

Yeah,   the adapters I was looking at....only a 10 grain difference between long and short...Id take up the slack without much headache if I had to with a weight.

Wannabe1

Either will work. To get my point weight just the way I needed it, I had to use the short adapter for my 145gr Stos. They spin and fly perfect.

Long, and by the way, they are great broadheads.

Either...and epoxy would be best on the short adapter for sure.

Yeah, use epoxy, I've had a couple of heads pull off with hot melt.

X2 on epoxy for the short adapter.

Most archers seem to prefer long adapters in heads that will accept them, and I am no exception.  The longer bearing surface aids in bonding and can also help with alignment.  You definitely want a super strong adhesive like epoxy for use with short adapters as there is so much less bearing surface for the glue.  Glue failure on a hard hit can cause the adapter to drive forward within the head like a wedge and split the head from the back.  It's rare but it can happen.   :dunno:   A long adapter reduces the likelihood of that happening even further.
