Samick Leopard Recurve

I just purchased a Samick Leopard T/D recurve 50# @28 in.  Hasn't arrived yet.  I think that I got a good deal,(hopefully), got the bow a soft case, string, stringer, glove all brand new never shot for $125.  I know that this is a cheap, discontinued bow, but was wondering if any of you have any imput or experience about with them.  
    I'm fairly new to traditional archery; bought a Martin "the stick" longbow last year and love it. Been wanting to try out a recurve, having never shot one, and thought this Samick would be good for that.

I'm guessing you'll like the Samick.  The "stick" is not all that user friendly.

I agree, if  you like the Stick, you'll probably love the Samick.  While you can certainly spend a lot more for a bow and perhaps get a little higher performance, in reality you get very little more in the way of performance from a $1,000 bow than you do from a $150 bow.  Just shoot and enjoy!

I'm hoping that I like using the recurve, just wanted to actually own and shoot a recurve and a longbow for awhile before dropping a lot of money on a nicer bow of some type.  Definetly falling in love with traditional archery! (Never thought I would, ethier.)  My next bow purchase is going to be an above entry level bow, not a "widow" or "silvertip", just yet. Any suggestions on a good midpriced bow?

Used Damon Howatt: Hunter,Hi-Speed,SuperDiablo,Mamba. They all are good. Used Bear: Kodiak Hunter, Grizzly. Lots of choices for under $250.

In my opinion, if you like the "stick", you will like any other bow out there. My dad has a "stick" and that bow is just plain miserable to shoot.

I have a Leopard.  The shelf developed a crack down into the grip.  I contacted Samick and they sent me a new Red Stag to replace it with.  The Red Stag is a smooth shooter and I was impressed with Samick's customer service.

Its taken me a while but I've learned to shoot the stick quite effectively. It's the only traditional bow i've ever drawn, I'm looking at broadening my horizons with some different low end bows to just get a feel of what I'll really like. Plus I figured it couldn't hurt to have a few extra bows laying around.
  Will I be able to shoot off the shelf of that leopard? Thats what i am used to and like.

Don't shy away from used bows, or old bows.  There's plenty of 40+ year old bows out there that will still give ya plenty of enjoyable shooting.  Shoot more bows before buying anything expensive.  It will take awhile before you ever learn what you really like.  And remember......Have FUN..

You can shoot off the shelf no problem.  With my Red Stag I did install a rest, but that's because I prefer a rest.  The Leopard shoots fine off the shelf.
