Lanham recurves anyone???????

Anyone ever heard of lanham traditionals?

Rick lanham is a local bowyer here in central missouri. Makes a great recurve. Smooth & quit. A true work of art.

I owned one of Ricks bows years ago.

It was a little heavy in the hand for my taste so I moved it along.

I am sure that Rick has improved over the years.

I can also tell you that patience will be needed if you order one.

Sometimes they can be slow in coming.

Back then I shot recurves and selfbows but have since moved on to Hills and Hill style bows.

God bless,Mudd

I really liked his recurve that I had.  It shot well and looked good too.  I will second what Mudd said though about needing patience.  One of my friends ordered and almost entirely paid for a bow, but still had not received it two years later.

I have heard a couple story's along the same lines as what you guy's are saying. I guess i got lucky and picked up one of his prototypes. I had been shooting this bow periodically for a couple years but he never would sell it to me. Finally i saw him one day in the shop looking at a new marlin 338 lever gun. I told him i had one just like it at home. I guess i found his weakness. Turns out hes a big marlin lever guy. We traded even up. I had about $500 in the gun and ive never seen any of his bows sell for under $650. I happy as can be.
I know turn around has been slow for rick. He has been in a couple car accidents and had a stoke a couple years back. His body is hurting for sure. He is back at it now for the time being. I know of 4 bows he has completed in the past month. Still great work.

The first custom recurve I ever ordered was a Lanham...maybe back in 1992?  I thought it was a great shooting bow and was very similar in design to a Brackenbury, Blacktail and Wallace.  All of these bows look to me like they are made off the same basic design, but I think there might be some connection between some of these bowyers and the late Jim Brackenbury?.

Anyway, I ended up missing four deer in a row with that bow...certainly not the bows fault but it got the blame anyway...and subsequently ordered a longbow from Abe Penner.  I killed the first buck I ever shot with that longbow and it was straight sticks for me ever since!

I also remember talk of Rick having some health issues back in the 90's and to be honest, I didn't even know he was still building bows.

Yep, Rick is a great guy and bowyer. Made some strings for him back in the early 90s.

Sorry to hear about his health issues, good to know he's back at it!

He always talked of his bear hunts in Alaska, too.
