Please some suggestions on arrows

I will be hunting this year with bows rangeing from 55 to 61 pounds

Right now I am useing an ICS 400 with a 125 grain head and 8 gpi weight tubes for a total weight og 600 grains

Arrow flight is good but I would like to get away from the weight tubes and go with a 100 grain insert and my 125 grain heads

My question is with a 27 inch arrow useing the 100 grain inserts will I have to go to a 340 or will the 400's still be stiff enough.

I know this is pure speculation and no rule is a given but I would really apreciate some input and suggestions.  I know I wont with either shaft with the 100 grain inserts and a 125 head get up to 600 grains but I will be happy in the mid 500's

I show you about 3# soft with the MA at 61# while the 340's will take you way high (100# or so)

From my experience with a pretty similar setup, you'll need a 400.

I don't know much about the ICS shaft,I shoot the Traditional Classics which are heavier and has the 75/50 insert. I found the 500s to stiff for #50, but they would be a good fit for you. I would leave them full length and trim off the back end as needed. These arrows with the full insert and a 175-200 gr. head will give you plenty of weight.

With a 55#,at my draw, recurve,when I shoot a 400 spine arrow,I need app 250 grs on the front end.I have a 29" draw and arrow is 30".To go up to .340 spine,it takes 400 grs total,point and insert weight.

Adding 100 grs to the front end weakens the dynamic spine app 20#'s.

Your setup sounds stiff to me with a 27" arrow but only you can determine that by shooting.If you are truly getting good arrow flight now,I think you would need to go to .340's but I would be very cautious about cutting the shafts down too quickly.Start long and work down gradually,have a variety of heavy field points handy and be open minded about what weight broadhead you may end up needing.Your 125's may not be enough.

The other thing is,when you jump to a stiffer carbon spine group,expect the overall arrow weight to increase 120-150 grs(more point weight and slightly more shaft weight).That may be just
what you need or may be more than you want.

It is hard with carbons to predict and hit an exact overall arrow weight but if you get within 50 grs,I don't think you will visually notice any difference.

My 55#  longbow shoots 29.5 400 spine carbons with 200 up front like a champ. I am with JimB, don't cut them to quickly.

I draw 28 1/2" and have several hi-performance bows in the 53-58# range... I'm using GT 5575 [ rated at 400] and 400 Carbon Vapors cut 29 5/8" BOP, with standard inserts,3 5" LW feathers, and 250 gn VPA's.  Weight is right at 550 gn. and they work well with entire range of bows I shoot.

When not using the VPA's, I use 160 grizley and 75 gn. steel screw in adapters or 135 gn. Zwickey S/B No Mercy's and 100 gn. steel adapters,.. Both sets up give me a 235 gn head and a total wt of 535 gns..   These also work great for me.

I would suggest leaving the shafts as you have them and trying a 235-250 gn. tip & the standard 15 gn. insert  and see how yours fly from your various wt. bows.  I would suspect they may be just fine.

That 27" arrow BOP even with 225 point weight would be stiff out of most bows in that poundage. I used to shoot .400 spine out of some high performance recurves all cut at least 3/16th. past center and I shot a 29.5" arrow bop with 225 up front. I would say you will be very close on bows 59-62#s but under that you are gonna be stiff. Right now I am shooting 53#s at my 28.5" draw and a 29.5" arrow and I shoot .487-500 spine with 175 grains up front. For every inch you shorten that arrow, you will nedd at least 50 grains of point weight. I would say go with the 400s but shoot at least 275 up front if not a bit more! Shawn
