St Jude 2010 youth bow
« on: March 13, 2011, 04:29:00 PM »
It only took 8 months but I finally completed the build and got it out the door to its new home with amar911.  Allan was extremely patient with me during the build as I was continually called out on the road for work this year.

Thru out the build we had the oppertunity to talk multiple times to one another on various topics regarding health, family, bowhunting, bows, and building bows.  Its truly been a pleasure getting to know Allan, and I was honored to build this bow for such a fine individual.

We discussed possible wood options and settled on a Bacote Riser with Cocbolo I-beam, and utilize a phenolic accent stripe flanked by black and white core tuff.  I ordered my parts thru Kenny M and as always his choice in woods were spot on, and simply amazing.  Beautiful grain patterns, and deep rich coloring brought out the best of both wood species.

The limbs are Bacote with Coco wedges, and have tip overlays of whitetail antler and phenolic. and an overlay on the belly of Bacote.  The limb pads have and overlay of Bacote and black glass.  Finished draw weight of 27#@24".

Special thanks to Mike Mecredy who helped me get the finish applied, as I left for another trip overseas.  I was having a heck of a time getting the Tru oil finish to cure on the Coco and asked Mike for some assistance.  After sanding the complete bow (for the 3rd time) I sent it to Mike, where he prepped the wood and laid down a nice finish for me.

Here are the finished pics.  There is a thread somewhere on the Bowyers forum that shows the materials in there unfinished state.
