Yep, it's all about shot placement. Even a piddling 80# bow and a tiny little 300 grain, 1 1/2", 3 blade broadhead will take them down if you put'em in the vitals.

Shouldn't have no problem plowing that 300gr. head right through it to get to the bird!

Big Jim - You were shooting a very high powered set-up relative to the quarry.

I am fully aware that getting a complete pass thru on a turkey can be tough. It just seems difficult to imagine that shooting these birds with your set-up wouldn't have yielded a complete pass thru unless the arrow contacted the ground.
Knocking the bird off his feet must absorb a vast amount of energy far more than I had believed.

It is hard to say what happend exactly since it happened so fast. I thought I spined him because he hit the ground immediately and went to floppin. I heard a very loud crack when the arrow hit him too. Lots of things possible. I was sitting and may not have made it to my full draw (?) The path of destruction was huge and many bones broke. I do recall him dragging one leg after he jumped up and hopped off.
If It helps the puzzle, I shot a eastern out in Kansas a while back with an 85lb bow and nearly the same set up only using one of those gobbler getter expanding heads and only penetrated about 4"s but also cut his spine in two.
