Need some spine help

I am shooting a bear kodiak special at 42# at my draw(28") and I am going to shoot a 158-160gr head on Easton axis shafts and I was wondering if I could get away with shooting a 500 spine or if I would have to bump up to a 400. Arrow length is 28-29" depending on how much I feel like leaving up front this fall. Any help would be much appreciated.

well according to the chart you are between spine 28" shows 500 spine and 29"shows 400spine using 150 grains.  i think i would cut them to 28 and stay with the 500s

I think you will be fine with the 500 at that weight.  I shoot them at 52# cut shorter but with a lot more head weight.  Use a 5" fletch and they should work out.

I forgot to add that I will have a 9" crest and I will be shooting 5" shield cut feathers in a 4-90 configuration.

I would suggest a .600 at most.  Leave them long and be prepared to put some serious point weight on them as well.  In all honesty with the point weight you mentioned you'd probably be better off with a .700.

Are you sure your going to be able to get 5" 4 fletch on an Axis?  I've not tried it but it sounds a bit cramped.

I have looked around and you can fit a 5" 4-90 fletch on an axis but is does take a bit of trial and error because it is a bit cramped. Well worth the trouble because it will look so darn cool. Taking bravehearts advice I looked around here on the site and I am now thinking that I should shoot 600s and possibly put more weight up front, like 175-200gr. Does this sound about right?

For a .600 I'd expect at least 200 grains and leave them long to start, once you cut them you can't put it back.  They'd probably tune even better for you with around 250 up front, that might be too much overall weight for you at 42# if so then you might consider .700's with a lighter point.
