Sneeking up on jacks.
« on: April 06, 2011, 01:43:00 AM »
Went out chasing jack rabbits the other day. Was in some tall grass this time. Would look for thier ears. Then try to make a sneek on them. When i got close for a shot . I would lip squeek or make a meow with my fawn call to make them stand up for a shot. Was a pretty good day only broke two arrows and only lost two ,with broadheads on them. Blunts and stuff do not work on these guys . Did spend lots of time hunting for arrows. Hunting these things get pretty adictive.Heck hunting any thing with a bow gets adictive.
Heres the stuff I was hunting in.

And the two I mananged to get.

Most of the time they would run before I got close. Also had a little coyote come in while I was talking to the rabbits. I won't shoot healthy coyotes this time of year, they are making targets for this fall.
You can hop but you can't hide.
If it was not for rabbits I would never get a buck.

Great fun!  To far from jacks here on the wet side of Oregon, so don't get the opportunity often enough.  Lots of rocks where I have hunted them, hard on arrows.  Good shooting.

Nice shot congrats!
An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. So when life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means that it's going to launch you into something great.

Jacks are one hard target, if they start to move they are gone and wont stop until they get to the next county, They are fun , nice shooting.

These work great!

Our Prostaffer, Scott McGann put a "Thumpin'" on some Jack Rabbits recently. He writes:

"Hey Guys, I was a contestant in the Treasure Valley Bowhunters annual Rabbit shoot this past Sat. I passed out some VPA brochures as well has gave away 6- Small Game Thumpers for a few guys to try out during the tournament. The club gives out 2 trophies. 1 for members of their club and 1 for non-members. I am happy to say that both winners were using VPA SGT heads.

I won the Non-Member category. I ended up shooting 7 jack-rabbits for the day. Here is one of them." Scott "Scooter" McGann
