exotic wood chart at BigJim's
« on: April 08, 2011, 05:39:00 PM »
Guys, I want you to know that I feel your pain when it comes to picking out specific woods for your bows. I too have difficulty deciding at times. I get many calls and I can hear the frustration in there voice's. I know my chuckling does nothing to soothe there aking heads either....Soooo. With the help of my web designer (really more him than me), we have added a link on the home page of the different exotic woods that we offer.....course that's always subject to change as I find more pretties suitable for casting arrows.
thanks for playing, BigJim

I like it but it will still make the decision a hard one. Very broad selection.

I get asked the same question frequently.."what do you like?" Well.... I guess with this new page, you now know.
New to me species are typically my favorites at least temporarily. I wouldn't add more to the show if they didn't SHOW! I have some Argentine Lignum Vitae (Vera wood) that is really striking to "me" but not for everyone. Kind of greenish and harder than woodpecker lips.
The desert Ironwood gets me kinda excited. It is so dense that it won't float. Desert Ironwood can live for thousands of years and may only be harvested if it is dead. The two mammoth sized pieces I have are estimated to be over 2000 years old. I think my wife is jealous of my wood passion (don't read that the wrong way). But I could go on and on. It is really about having the right colors and not too many different colors put together.
Enjoy it while you have it, Bigjim

Man oh man, I can't wait to see my ironwood TC, and somewhere down the road, there will probably be a juniper one, as well. The chart makes you want to have several bows of different woods. Big Jim, you are devious with your ability to get into our wallets, and this wood chart is more evidence of it.

Great Jim but where are the other 100 or so woods you've used?     :knothead:

Great addition to the web site.

Only a suggestion- I am not skilled enough to envision the finished product from the more raw wood type pics. I believe that a possibly more enticing and educational platform would be to have pics of actual finished wood risers and limb veneers in a similar format. But then we couldn't sleep at night.

Great job Big Jim and team!

Got a TC on order and I THOUGHT I had my mind made up about the woods. Love the addition to the site but now I'm in total confusion!!!

My wait should be over sometime soon. I better start deciding on the woods.
