Black Clothing For Blind Hunting???

Yep, black silk long underwear is the stuff of choice.  I just grow a black beard instead of a face mask

Been using black clothing in my Double Bull blind for 6 years for turkey hunting, I don`t use any netting on the windows, for deer hunting I use the netting and with that you could hunt in blaze orange they can`t see you, unless the sun is facing directly into the windows, I bought my black clothing at garage sales saved alot of money!

So,... based on the lack of comment regarding UV rays and how animals see color, it appears that nobody buys into the idea that "color" per se is not the only issue. I read somewhere that one reason old wool plaid works so well is that typically it does not contain or has not been washed with products containing UV "brighteners".

Cabelas sells a black silk-weight poly long-underwear up to 5XL. Its light enough to wear alone in warmer weather and it stretchy enough to fit over a couple of sweaters. I wear them year-round with a T-shirt over, and pack one for a top layer in the blind.

I'll have to try this (wearing black in the blind), though wearing camo has always worked pretty well for me. I've been busted by scent or sound (no excuses) often enough, but I can't think of a time a deer detected my shape or motion (visually) while I was in the blind.  Some of my best days in the field I've stopped hunting as such and simply enjoyed having small birds enter the blind and even land on my hands and arms.

Dick---I agree that UV brighteners are an issue when hunting outside the blind---but I am not sure it matter much when inside a blacked out blind, where there is minimal sunlight.  That said, all my hunting clothes are washed in Sports Wash.  I  have two sets of cheap black polyester long sleeved shirts, face masks, and thin leather shooting gloves that I pack in the blind bag when we are hunting turkeys with the screens open. The face and bow hand are the things that are most apparent from outside. Deer do not respond well to black holes, so I use the screens for them. I have seen them respond to  camo-clad movement behind the screens--they didn't spook, just raised heads and stared for a while.

Hey Dick Sable, Yea, the UV brightners are a big deal. Rutgers, and a few other colleges/Universities have done studies on UV brightners and animal perception or recognition.

all of my hunting cloths are Predator camo, cotton, no UVs added. THere are a ton of videos and websites out there that show clothes in UV light, and they light up like neon lights. It's crazy. Yea, that makes a big difference.

You're also right that old time wool clothes are made without UV brightners. That's why they still work great today.

Be careful wearing black in spring turkey season you might get shot.

Go on line to any industrial clothing supply company(grainger) and get black coveralls.If you get 2 pair one being larger for winter(adding thicker clothes under).
