Need help choosing blind
« on: April 15, 2011, 04:11:00 PM »
My turkey season opens May 2nd and I am looking to buy a new blind.  I have narrowed it down to the Hidden Hunter or Double Bull recurve.  Which one is the strongest in high winds with least wind flap?  I like the shooting port on the front of the DB and not sure I like the cords on the floor of the HH but the HH looks sturdier and easier to pack.  Also, my son is in a wheelchair and I may take him with at times and the DB door does not look like it would accomodate a wheelchair.  Any advice from those with experience with either blind would be much appreciated.

Don't recall the name but there was a blind made that the whole side lifted up so you could get a wheel chair in. If I remember I'll let you know.

I LOVE my Predator Den from Primos. The price is scary low and the quality is very high. I staked mine down on an open fence row and it stayed upright for 4 months until it was stolen. It is large and has most of the same features the high priced blinds have. I highly recommend one. Your boys chair will easliy roll in and out as well.

this is a blind i recently bought  http://shop.barronettblinds.com/Grounder-350-Hunting-Blind-with-BloodTrail-Camo-GR350BT.htm
It is huge- goes up in about 20 seconds- costs less than db and you could absolutely get a wheel chair inside

Double Bulls are now made overseas and you can sure as heck tell. First time I set mine up one of the poles poked through the sleave. Not nearly as quality made as the originals.

Try to find a used Double Bull an older model. Super tough! The predator den is actually very nice for the money as said above. Shawn

Those both look good, I'll have to look up that Primos too (in case I ever get another windfall - LOL) Oh yeh, it just dawned on me that primos is the Double Bull - can't imagine it being "scary cheap" but I'll look there too perhaps.

The room in The Ameri-step Penthouse looks great - wonder if I watered my Ameri-step Doghouse it would grow into a Penthouse (which, as I recall, I paid almost that for, though I may be wrong). Only trouble is, sometimes i have to try two or three times to figure 8 the smaller Doghouse. I'd probably have more problem with the Penthouse.

I have had it with the center hub blinds.  I just bought a hidden hunter and couldn't be happier.  Nice shooting windows.  Plenty of room.   It would be very easy to get a wheelchair in.  The whole length of the blind opens.  Check out the demo video on their website.

If you go with a DB, you would have to lift the blind over the wheelchair, couldn't roll thru the door, at least not mine. If your not planning on setting it up a couple days early and staking it down it would not be a problem then. The room inside would be fine just using the door might be the prob. Now as far as others I'm not sure what the door configuration is like but my Ameristep Doghouse has a big enough door to roll him thru but the blind isn't as big as a DB. Like I said before if your not worried about early set-up I would recommend a DB or maybe a Rhino blind, it's a DB copy and maybe nicer too. Good luck and let us know what you chose and how it works.   Chris

Thanks for all the responses!  I have looked at all the blinds you all have mentioned except the Rhino blind; need to google that one, and it looks like there are better options than just the two I looked at.  I could even buy two of the blinds mentioned for the proce of one DB.  I like the look of the Barronett Snake Eyes.  Rusty1; can the windows be adjusted so only a portion is shoot through mesh and the rest covered and how do the windows adjust; magnet, zipper or velcro?
Thanks again!

Gary, here is what they say on the Barronett site-"Snake Eyes Venom blinds have the most versatile window configuration. The 6-panel design allows for horizontal window opening, vertical window openings, or both. The windows also dip low allowing for sitting shots, and all Snake Eyes Venom blinds come with removable zippered shoot-through mesh windows." There is even a zippered roof opening! The height is 84". Hub to hub is 90". Ordered this one site unseen. Doing research led me to Barronett blinds and I don't think I will be dissapointed. Check their web site out.

Thanks Rusty.  Just looked at their website and am ordering the Snake Eyes today from the website you mentioned.  At $150 it is half the price of the HH and much less than the DB.  I will set it up ahead of time and leave it in the woods.  I wouldn't want to do that with a $300-$400 blind. Didn't see anything about the door so I hope that works but if not I'll just pull the tie down stakes and pop it over his chair.  Thanks all and good luck this turkey season!

Gary, make sure the one you ordered will have the same features as the one I did. Mine was $285.00. The smaller venom is $245.00 I believe.

They show two snake eyes blinds on that website.  The new one is the snake eyes venom with mossy oak camo and is $289.  The other is just called snake eyes and is in backland adrenaline camo that is $149.  I don't see any difference in the blinds other than the camo.  They both come in two sizes and I will order the larger size.  I wonder what other differences there are between the two?  Maybe the new one has better fabric.?  Maybe I will e-mail them to find out.

Boy, there's some really good information here!  I have been starting to look for a good blind that I can shoot my longbow out of, and I now have several good choices to look check out.  I'm going to take ber643's advice and water my Ameristep Doghouse and see if it will grow into a Penthouse.

the baronette blind I have (grounder 350 w/ blood trail camo which is a quitea bit greener in color than shown)opens in one corner and if you only stake 3 sides you will be able to pull the door open far enough to get the chair in. got mine for $119.00 from a farm store about 45 minutes from where I live. The construction is good but it is helpful when zippering the openings shut to pop the hub in on that side so it's not so tight.
