In search of a big bow for a big guy
« on: April 18, 2011, 09:43:00 PM »
I have a friend who is possibly the tallest guy you would ever meet. He Likes archery and would love to shoot traditional but he has a 40 inch draw. Does anyone know of any bow maker who might be able to produce a bow capable of being drawn that far?

Using the wingspan divided by 2.5 formula for draw length, your friend would have a wingspan equaling 100", or 8'4". Are you 100% sure this is his draw length?

If so, Black Swan advertises bows being drawn to 45", however, he would probably require a 80" bow. Maybe an English Warbow would be a good fit.

BTW, will be seeing this guy in the NBA soon?

Maybe a 70" Hill bow, but I doubt that would do it.
How about one of those really large Japanese bows.
How tall is this guy anyway??

The only thing I could think a guy like that would use for arrows is bamboo shoots.

70 inch bow at least to start with. 75 inch static tip recurve to keep the string from pulling off the end?
Just one more step please!

Some dude with a stick and string chasing things.

What a freakin powerstroke eh!!!

Dang!

I wonder is anyone would do a special run of long carbons, Al's or long woodies?

If you get this guy shooting PLEASE post a vid.

I would think the easiest bow would be a LooOOOOnnnnGGGG Hill. like around 90-95".

OMG I want to see this happen!

I met a real tall young man at Moses Lake last weekend.  He had an 84" self longbow.

I've had the thought of trying to build a really long Hill style just for the challenge.  I figured it would be easy enough to do, but would be expensive in that what it would take four pieces of glass instead of two.  You'd have to use a really strong laminated riser, glass reinforced.   Form for a straight bow wouldn't be a problem.  It'd be a fun project, but I might have a little problem tillering it, being as I have a 25" draw!

get him a 68" highly r/d bow, if we can draw 52" r/d bows to 28+ he can probably get a 68" to his draw length.

He is 6'8" and has VERY long arms but i'm checking on his draw length again to be sure. I wasn't there when he came up with that number.

When checking his draw, tell him to anchor at the corner of his mouth. There are many different anchor spots, but that is about as short and consistant as you can get. He won't need any extra draw length, infact, this is 0ne instance that longer draw could hurt him.

Wow, I find that hard to believe. I have a bud who is 6'11" and he draw 32" maybe 33 on a good day. 40"s seems to long to be real, I would definitely check it. Shawn
