What size Alu footing for .288"OD carbon
« on: April 29, 2011, 05:55:00 AM »
Does anyone know exactly what Aluminum Arrow shaft size will fit exactly over a Gold tip Kenetic .200?

The Gold tip Kenetic has an Outside diamiter of
 .288"

how do you find out the Internal diamiter of Aluminum arrows?

many thanks

Andy, try getting a hold of a digital caliper and measuring it that way. Good luck to you.

andy, charlie lamb had a pretty good list going, do a search on footings, it'll come up.

"how do you find out the Internal diamiter of Aluminum arrows?"

stick the ID end of a vernier caliper inside the shaft, digital is quicker to read but there the same tool, and take your measurement.

I may be wrong, but I think a 2016 will be the shaft size.

2016 is too narrow.2013 is .2865 inside(at least on paper.

Andy you can figure the inside diameter with a little math.

1.The first two digits are in 64ths of an inch,O.D.
2.1/64" =.015625
3.Outside diameter of a 2016 would be 20x.015625=.3125
4.Outside diameter of 2117 would be 21x.015625=.3281
5.Once you know the outside diameter, double the wall thickness which for a 2016 is .016x2=.032.
Just subtract this double wall thickness from the outside diameter. .3125 minus .032=.2805 I.D for 2016
6.for 2117,.3281 minus .034=.2941 I.D.
7.In theory,if there were such a thing as a 2012,it should be .2885 I.D.

Now,after you get all your math worked out, measure the actual carbon and aluminum shafts with calipers because they sometimes aren't exactly what the manufacturer states.

You might have to use 2117's and some thick, paste type epoxy.

A 2117 will be pretty close for the more common aluminum sizes.

For what it's worth:

I have Beeman ICS 300s. My calipers are cheapos that only measure to 0.01"  I have to eyeball thousandths.

My arrow is 0.2925-0.2940" diameter.
2115s are perfect.  The math on them comes out to 0.2981"   So 0.005"  clearance is a good goal

0.288+0.005=0.293

2117s by my the math come out to .294 (0.006")

With the way the 2115s are fitting on my arrows I'd say with some 5-min epoxy or other *thick* glue the 2117 will work perfectly

Just to come back to this and what me and Andy were trying to use...

A 2117 is too loose in my opinion to use straight up on the Kinetic .200 spine shafts. I have tried a number of ways to make them fit, and after the efforts I've found a couple of wrap overs with packing tape works best.

I have used a few lengths of footing to try, but my latest is a 2.5" piece of 2117, with a 1.5" piece of 2317 over the top both backed up behind directly behind the broadhead glued in (no insert - I have found these very weak)
