It's going to be a wet one
« on: May 10, 2011, 05:27:00 PM »
Just saw that the Mississippi River is flowing at about 2 million cubic feet per second near my camp.  Old Man River is really flexing his muscles this year.

For you number guys, that's 897,600,000 gallons per minute or 1,290,000,000,000 gallons a day!

Keep your arse dry bro'. Sorry to say that we are expecting a torrential downpour tomorrow in Missouri.  Give it a few days and it will find its way to you.

Yep, flood stage will last a while.  They are talking about diverting water to the area floodplains.  In fact they started opening the Bonnet Carre' yesterday.

Check it out.

You guys along the Mississippi be careful out there. Let's hope your hunting camp survives the flooding.

It's behind the flood protection levees, but I will get some backflow eventually if the open the Morganza Spillway.

I see the pictures of Tenn. and others and I feel sorry for those people.

That water is rolling through the bonne Carre spillway.  I drive across there every day .  I even saw a gator walking down I-10 today looking for dryer ground.

A couple of my buddies honey holes are 10 feet deep. Not worried about adult deer coming back, the worry is for the fawns and fetuses. Not a good situation but there ie nothing that any of us can do.

The White River in Arkansas is finally coming down a little.  Crested higher than has ever been recorded, going back to before the dams were built.  Lots of people have lost everything and the farmers are in a real bind.  News report said tonight that 1 million acres of crop land in Arkansas is under water.  With the Mississippi and the Arkansas Rivers so high it's gonna be a long time before everything gets back to normal.  Please, everyone be safe.

Is it me or is it getting worse. It seems there is a lot more flooding on both sides of the border, not sure where all the water is coming from or where it is going but I am sure a lot of hunting ground will shift along with personal possessions. Good Luck and Try to stay safe. Maxx

Good Luck guys, seems the weather is affecting us all. We are getting flooding here in Montana also. We just received 3" in 2 days, which is a lot for us. Also record snow packs, which will start melting soon.

Here in Cleveland, Mississippi all of the hunting and fishing camps on the river side of the levy are well under water. The rising river has driven deer and hogs from the river side into the Dahomey NWR. The NWR thought they were getting the hog population somewhat under control, but now the numbers are going back up. Years before the animals would go back across the levy back into the lands on the river side. However, if the the river stays as high as expected for a long period of time this year many of the hogs and deer may stay in the refuge. Should make hunting alot better for the coming year. Supposed to see rain tonight, tomorrow and maybe into the weekend. Don't need that rain or anymore water at this time. River expected to crest here on Monday.

All the rain and flooding in the Midwest and we can't buy a shower here in East Texas.  I've lived in Texas all my 62 years and never have I seen it so dry; especially in May.  East, Central and South Texas needs some relief soon.  By prayers to all of you that are affected.

Maxx,

Don't have facts, but then, my point would be that there AREN'T any...

We tend to look at our tiny recorded history and think we're smart, but Mother Earth has been ebbing and flowing a lot longer than records have been kept.

Makes a person wonder if this isn't just part of a larger normal cycle that exceeds our historical boundaries?

Or... as our Wonderful Hero who "invented the internet" its all about "global warming."

Might not know in our lifetime...least not my sorry aging behind's lifetime!  :)

Around here, it doesn't flood that "often" so every square foot of real estate in any flood plain gets built on. Man isn't as superior as we think...

Prayers for safety for those who are at risk. Floods and wild fire are terrifying.

D. Key, I wish we had a way of diverting the flood waters here along the Mississippi to you folks in Texas where the water is needed.

Doc Nock, mother nature understands things that we will never understand nor will we have the kind of contol over nature that we think we do.

We're 10" below normal rain for this time of year. No garden. Too dry. Good luck.

I have a lakehouse down at Lake Mary near Fort Adams Ms. It's 14 feet off the ground and were still expecting 3-5 feet of water in house. I've seen some high water over the years, but this will be a game changer.
